Do you buy your stock from the actual companies, or from a trading service?

I've been buying stock directly from the companies lately. I used to do scottrade 4 years ago, but got tired of the fees.

What do y'all do?

You yall? Fail at sounding southern.

I've bought through USAA but only because I have some free trades from them.

No one buys stock directly from companies anymore.

I use TDAmeritrade, but I've had an account with them for 20 years.

One of my good friends got into day trading. He would spend hours listening to experts on TV and radio and he bought special software to help him decide which stocks he wanted to buy. He was spending so much time doing that his regular business started to suffer. In the end one of his employees that was a naturalized American citizen from Cuba got interested in the stock market from watching the boss. He started buying and selling stocks and he did better by just gut instinct.

I watched all of that and I figured I did not want to spend my life as a day trader. I let USAA make the investments for me. They have a long term track record of making my money grow and a respectable rate and I don't have to do a single thing.

I buy from a broker. I don't buy or sell often enough for the fees to matter much to me.

Buy and hold is my motto. I have bought a few individual stocks in the past. These days, I don't. I buy index mutual funds in various asset classes. Index mutual funds have a very low fee/cost compared to the actively managed funds. Especially if you use Vanguard and their funds. Mutual funds allow me to own far more stocks than I would own if I were trying to buy individual companies' stocks which allows me to own a much more diverse portfolio than if I was buying individual stocks. I like the protection that offers. I don't have to worry about a single stock taking a dive.

Scottrade and Interactive Brokers.

I don't trade all that much because I am a buy and hold kind of guy.

Scottrade for me. $7.00 commission is fairly cheap.
