I run the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3s on my 993. Yup, all season since my car does see occasional NC "wintery mix"! The front tires on my car typically expire from age before tread wear. The rears are a different story. I typically get 6-7K out of them. However, my local Discount Tire honors the Michelin mileage warranty (I think guaranteed to like 43K). So long as the tread wear is even and consistent (which it is) they always replace them and are very fair with the proration deal.

EDIT: when the fronts finally need replacing, I will likely give something else a shot.

Looking at Dunlop

Dunlop Direzza DZ102, anyone have them or inside scoop on their performance?

They are Sumis price and have rim guard, so maybe these.

I currently have the SO-4s on my Cayman as a street tire. It is a pretty good all around tire wet or dry, with no business on a racetrack.

Well, I read the tire rack reviews and the results are mostly favourable, the speed rating is right, the price is right, I like the look so I think I'll go with the Dunlops.

Guess I'll order them tomorrow.

Thanks for all your input, made good reading, lots of info on this subject from a lot of knowledgeable people.

I'm curious, why didn't you go with Yokahamas? Price? Wear rating?

I only ask because I've suggested them to others and they have gone with anything OTHER than my suggestion. I really liked the tires on my SC.

On your suggestion, I looked into the S drive and they scored well and the price was OK and I liked the look, but they were not available to the local supplier here, so I had to pass on them. Goodyear F1's were also not available, so Dunlops were the best of the big name speed rated meant for Porsche tires, so that's why I'm going with them.

I'm in eastern Canada, and we're lucky to have cars at all, not to mention good tires.
So we make do with what we got.

So thanks for helping out, I appreciate that you and others took the time to pass along your thoughts.

I see no reason for you to feel that way. It was helpful and steered me away from the Sumitomos as i like the rim guard sidewall better and Sumis don't offer that. So thanks again.

New boots

Finished the new boot replacement with the Dunlops and like them. More affordable than the pilot sports which are very expensive.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads24/0401441391183.jpg[/img]


BTW I learned while doing this, if you want all 4 corners up, you do all the jacking at the back, as there is room for the jack and a jack stand. Jacking at the back lifts both same side wheels at once, and there is only room at the front for a jack stand. (I thought I would have to do the back, then go and do the front) . My '86 wasn't this easy.

I'm probably the only guy on this forum who just learned this today. Tools needed:
1 or 2 hockey pucks, one floor jack, 4 jack stands. Safe and painless.
