To your point, is exactly why when she told me to leave I lay down beside her like she'd never asked the question. She's my best pal and seems to be in a real funk...

It seems that women have serious mood change as well as physical issues throughout their life due to chemical imbalances. First in their teens, then during child bearing...and then once again, when they reach menopause. They are well worth the pain they cause us (although it still hurts). Wait until your daughters go through this. You get to relive it all over again. By then, your wife will be able to laugh about them with you.
Glad you have a good sense of humor about this. Sometimes it only lasts a little while...sometimes it seems forever. Support her and then one day, things will be normal.
Having kids makes everything so serious. IMHO, wives suddenly subconsciously want you to be more like their Dad than their boyfriend. Dads are serious. My wife started laughing at my jokes again...after many years. It had been so long that I had forgotten how nice that was.
