I think the Miata is more about the experience, while people buy an FRS/BRZ expecting it to be a full on sports car and are disappointed. Simple fun doesn't require 400 HP.
Btw, for those who would call the Miata "slow", most tests are getting 0-60 times in under 6 seconds. So that slow and girly Miata would give every 911 up through a Carrera a run for its money.

For me they both seem to be engaging cars that would provide plenty of fun, which is the whole point. Nitpicking aside, I think it comes down to your personal preference for a coupe, or an open car. I think both manufacturers are to be congratulated for producing these, because they really do address an enthusiastic market. I'm thinking about getting one, but haven't made up my mind about which. It's a good thing to have such a choice available. I have to find out if I can fit into the Miata, though; I'm comfy in the BRZ.
