I like the new one too, very tempting. What else is similar, mustang, brz? I dont care about the convertible, just looking reliable car that I want to drive. I have a truck for the snow and have been through a few e36's. On paper the brz and miata are pretty similar, minus the roof of course.

The base car does have a small screen on the dash. Does not have stupid sirius antenna and a bunch of other crap, but does not have limited slip either. The way they option them and the colors they chose for them is rather unfortunate.

I have not driven an ND(new model) yet, but it is the best of the first three generations in stock form, quicker and better handling. Redline is too low, the gearing is too short, the wheels are too big, but it is the best overall package. Only way I was going to have a street legal turbo Miata was to get one, it is my current daily driver. The new one looks better in person than in a picture, but here is a picture anyway. Guy on the right is Dave Coleman, trying to figure out how to open the fuel filler door.

Lotus Elise or Exige.

Miata and BRZ are cool but will you ever stare at it and say "it's so cool that that's in my garage"? No. Are they easier to live with? Yes.

I just went thru this argument and bought an Elise.

They sell well because of their pricing. Plus, the handling is razor sharp. You just need to take out Cheap and you have the S2000. Still, I know the S2000 can out turn the new mx5, but that's not what this is about. BTW, I enjoyed my NA a lot

I do. I preferred my NA Miata in every way to my Elise. That's why it is still in my garage, while the Elise was replaced by an E46 M3.

I saw my first one last weekend in that superb metallic red. Only this one didnt look so good ,as some imbecile had parked in someone else's front yard via a lightpole and without bothering to disassemble the front brick wall before rather rudely knocking it down completely instead. This, on a freeway type road with a posted 40mph speed limit. Another case of texting whilst driving I'm guessing. The police were interviewing the driver as I went by, just to complete his ruined day.

If warranty is that big of a differentiator, you might want to rethink the reliability of your choices.

LOL. This is a forum for car guys. Consumer Reports has its own forum I'm sure...

This is way more reliable than consumer reports.

I probably would have gotten an NSX if I could have found one I liked for sale, preferred the Miata to the Honda, shocked the heck out of me.

I am hopeful that they will come out with another Miata R package sort of thing, maybe in a nice yellow.

Did you mean to say the S2000? The MX5 isn't really in the same league as the NSX

Yeah its not a porsche, if it was they would have to charge you 40k extra for the deleted wieght.

I haven't driven the new one, but I think it looks fantastic. I think the miata must be the most important sports car ever made. The only problem with buying a new one is older ones are cheap, dead nuts reliable, and you dont have to feel guilty about modding the crap out of a brand new car.

The new miata is actually a bit quicker than the BRZ in a straight line, its the end of an era where the miata is the slowest pure sports car sold.

That said the brz looks great, and has +2 seats if you have small (very) children

If you mean M96->M97 on the 987, good luck with that... Do you have the court papers to peruse ? Even with those it's not a sure thing (sometimes in 05)... Not sure even porsche knows. If you mean M97->9A1 then 2009 model year.

I share your indecision. They are all good cars. A used Miata is a good bet but feels small compared to a Boxster or Cayman. I could live with any of those. Depends on how rich or poor I feel at decision time...

I wonder about the suspension renewal or anything that needs to be done once over 100k miles? It has to be a lot cheaper to fix and replace than a P car. Yes you are right it is the most important sports car ever made especially for the masses.
