Weird 911 story

I'm driving down the highway, starting a road trip, and I hear a squeaking sound coming from the steering shaft. I somehow decide it's a dry u-joint in the steering column, which happens to be spinning like a u-joint in a drive shaft. I think that I should lube it, and wonder where I can pull off the highway for some oil.

At that moment, I notice the steering wheel has developed a large kink in it. It starts to distort and look like the jagged coastline in a map. The steering wheel is cracking and shrinking in my hands. I wonder how long the wheel will last, and realize it will not last more than another mile or two.

The whirring gets louder, and suddenly there is a burst of white smoke from under the dash. I see a few wires on fire. Wow, this is happening. I need to pull over. As I scan for a place, I calmly plan how I will pop the frunk, jump out, dig out the extinguisher from under the carpet, and pray I can operate it without the pin getting stuck.

At this point, the fire has grown, and to be it's encroaching that point where more than just a few wires that will need replacing. Point of no return is near. Every second counts, but I realize I can only do so much.

As I pull off an exit ramp, and see a small empty lot, and think to myself, "This is as good a place as any for a car fire". I start to pull over.....
......then I wake up from this dream! 4:30am. I don't go back to sleep.

Dumb question: Have you added a fuse to the dash light circuit yet? If not, may a suggest a new project for the weekend...

At first, I was thinking 'acid flashback' when you were talking about the steering wheel distorting.

Mine made a mess of my life for 3 weeks after purchase- I think I spent the equivalent of a small condo doing stuff to it during that timeframe.

Couldn't sleep, just messed with it, googled it, pelican part forum'd it, the whole bit.

I knew this was a dream as soon as I started reading it. Maybe because I read this board, (and some newspapers online), first thing in am.

The continuing low grade worries (particularly relating to the Immobilizer) about my 993, which was as reliable as any car I've owned, finally prompted me to sell it.

We all have different worry thresholds. I had the dreams, too.

So, I am taking the car in for some kind of repair. The car is in the middle of a department store like Kmart or Sears. They put it on a lift. The lift goes over 100 ft high and the roof of the car is hitting a display of ceiling fans and lights. I am like What the Hell!!! Are you going to let it down a few feet so it's not touching? They don't.

Then when they are done with the repair, I inspect the car by opening the door. The inside of the door jamb is all different colors, like the car was a cheap repaint. I am totally confused. I open the frunk lid and the underside paint is also a different color. But...but my car is original paint. What the hell happened? What did this idiot shop do?

Then I woke up!

Why were you wearing her thong? Wouldn't crumpled up on the floor or hanging from the ceiling fan have been a better place for it?

In my dream I was driving and flames suddenly came out of the glove box. Being close to home, I decide to try to drive it to where I can hit it with the garden hose.

I punch it. Suddenly, the car comes to life, but this studders (at about 60 on a 25mph zone). The engine cuts out. So to... the steering, and the brakes..)

At this point the smoke is so thick I can't see through the windshield, so I open the windows, which draws MORE smoke thought the cabin.

Knowing I can't stop now, and knowing the house is down a steep hill, I have no option but to aim for an opening in the forest, as not to set the whole forest on fire (I had just filled the tank).

As I came to a stop with the e-brake, choking, It occurred to me I had a fire extinguisher in the back.

I got out of the car, choking, to realize the hood had already crumpled with heat deformation, and the windshield had cracked. I aimed the extinguisher and fired.

the fire disapeared, but relit.

I fired again.

The fire started again.

The extinguisher was empty.

The fire continued.

As the fire extended, it engulfed the car. The tires exploded one by one as the heat killed them.

I called my wife, she got one pic.

I called the insurance company, they wanted the policy#

"It's in the car" I said....

Wish it was a dream!

Wow so sorry. Hope the insurance helped you with the policy number. Damn what a shame. I thought this was just going to be a worse dream than sugars.

Why call the trunk a frunk? It is just a trunk! Do you call the trunk in the rear of a front engine car a runk?

I don’t understand why a trunk is anything but a trunk no matter where it is located.

It go British, and call it a boot. Or in your case, a froot?

I am driving with some kind of PCA trek. Going uphill and the car is slowly dying.
As it's dying, I remember that earlier in the dream I was having issues with the car.
On some other day, I had limped it home, and parked it, and had forgotten that it needed attention.
Now, I had foolishly forgotten to get it serviced, and had taken it out for a long drive.
As the car is dying, I look for a convenient parking spot.

Suddenly, I am in my garage with the "heads" in my hands.
They are caked in mud. I see valve springs caked in mud.
It appears the inside, where the spark plug prongs are, are caked in mud.

Then I woke up!
