LOL, nonsense.

It's neither a $15k car, nor a $99k car. But if someone buys it at that price, then it really is a $99k car.

I'd call it $35k, but only because you know it'll be in reasonable mechanical shape.

This is a big assumption... He parked this car 35 years ago for some reason? Its partially disassembled. Unless someone who knew him well told the whole story, its an unknown.

Grady was one of the greatest aircooled wrenches out there, but I know plenty of mechanics that get halfway through their own projects and then let them sit for whatever reason(usually to make time and space for paying work). Assuming this car is in great shape just because it was his is a big assumption. Its been sitting for 35 years....

The ad is a little optimistic on the condition. That's not a number 3 car.

Still, it's worth a lot more than $15k. I know it won't be stock and there's a decent chance that some of the modifications might be interesting. If it has been off the road since 1980, that meant it only had twelve years of use. If it was stored out of the weather, it could be a pretty solid car.

Grady was a well known in the Porsche world, long before Pelican. You'd be surprised how many people knew him.

last registered in 1980 ≠ last driven in 1980, particularly for a track car.

And that's just ignorance of what's happened to the early 911 market in the last 5 years or so. It was a $15k car 7 or 8 years ago.

Anyhow, it's on eBay now which should end this discussion:

As someone who has absolutely been guilty of senseless acts of restoration (on far less worthy projects than an old 911), I wish I had the $$ to buy it and restore it.

It would be so damned cool to have Grady's old car...

True, but it's impossible to say how much track use it got. My take on it was that he did occasional track outings at events like the Porsche Parades. I don't think it was ever a serious track car.

Note the roof rack. Probably wasn't put back on the car just for the photos, as none of the other parts were, so it might have been on the car from its last use. Doubtful it was on a track.

Anyway, it's not a $15k car, as you shall soon see.

In this modern era with so much information at your finger tips, it amazes me people still can have such out dated ideas,
15k?, really ?? wow, just wow.

Advertised as a one owner car? Regardless of owners.... they left it in a nasty mess.

Just had to edit... quotes from the fleabay listing - LMAO:

__________________________________________________

Beautiful car that has no rust and a one owner Colorado car. Untouched from new

On Oct-08-15 at 13:40:33 PDT, seller added the following information:

6808 is Burgundy Red. Will post the serial 3'S for car and engine (motor) soon.

Matching #'s Car

Really no rust?
Rust is surface only!

This is a one owner 911. Google the owner, Grady Clay. I have near 100 pictures of the car from new. It has all documents from new that you get with car. The books in the glove-box. He cared his 911 in a manner a gentleman race car driver would.

Do you have found signs of bondo filler, weldings or accidents?
Minor dents and "wear and tear", I would call it patina and it is aesthetically appealing. Which is perfect for a Collector.

You can turn the engine by Hand?
The motor is fine. It was unused and the Grady decided to rebuild the carbs. He pulled them and where found just as the picture shows them.

You guys aren't following the SWB market closely, that car will see the ask, and when restored, will be double the ask. Plus it's Grady's, it's as unique as he was.

^^car is still in a POS condition. Description by seller is laughable. And who cares if it was Grady's? He left this one in a state of a mess. How many 911 turbo's would you like of Michael Jordan's or King Tut's? LOL

I doubt King Tut ever had a turbo, so I'd pass on one of those. Would have to be a scam... A Michael Jordan car might be interesting. He's well known now and his status ought to grow in the coming years. Look what Steve McQueen's ownership did to the value of his turbo. Who do you figure is more well known, worldwide, McQueen or Jordan? That one will get decided in twenty years.

Any 911 can be restored. A one owner car, that is well documented (as I figure Grady's car will prove to be) and owned by someone like Grady... it will be worth a surprising amount some day soon.

Proof that the early 911 market is way of of whack. You could have that or a 69 XKE in perfect condition with only 22K for not much over $100K.

I love Porsche's but a 68 in poor condition for anywhere near a $100K is flat insane. How many of you are putting your $ where your mouths are and actually bidding anywhere near that for it?

I'd call it 35K too- at the absolute most.

I have a friend that owns a restored XKE convertible, along with a slew of older 911s and other Porsches. The jag is nice to look at but not so great to drive. Tends to be a lot of trouble, unlike the 911s. Careful what you ask for.

If this was a ratty old Ferrari, it might be worth several hundred grand in that condition. Supply and demand, everyone is insane, lots of explanations. I don't get too worked up over it.

OK Denis, so in your eyes this car is in good condition?

And why did the maestro Grady let this car go to crap? The car is a disgrace, especially for $99k.

After its sold, its no longer A ONE OWNER CAR. Jeez, then you have the worshipers of who owned such and such. There's hundreds of thousands of cars that have changed hands and once owned by someone of recognition, but sorry I don't buy and inflate value just for that.

BTW: Denis, didn't you used to sell new cars? How long was your list of celeb, who's who of customers? I'm just trying to make a point that whoever owned this 911 treated it like crap, it is a POS and surely shows. The advert is laughable in its description and grossly over priced. That's all.
