As to why it's neglected? Well there is a lot of local history behind "Rennhaus." After some sort of bad business the mechanics went on to open their own successful local shops. Eurosport LTD, and Eisenbuds.

And we can leave it at that.

Grady knew how to pickle an engine so if that was done the engine would not be a worry. Surprised he owned this car by the looks of it. I would expect him to not let one get that far 'along' ..you'd think.
on the other hand, maybe this was his 'sleeper' : looks like crap but has a stroked motor --smokes the rears in every gear.

Still the high bidder, auction seems to have stalled a bit.

Wonder what the reserve is?
Not that I can afford it or the time required....

Reserve is most likely high and the auction is more tobuild an audience and sell it after the fact for a lot less. I think the car will ultimately go for between $40K and $55K.

Anybody been out to look at the car in person yet? Have you talked to the seller?

Talked with the seller, not really an enthusiast, sounds like he fell into the car and a lot of spare parts one way or the other.

Someone just bid it up for no reason. Coincidence?

Might go cheap then...

He's got an interesting ebay ID for a non-enthusiast...

Correct. First pic is from his racing days. That's him in the upper right hand corner picture:

And this is him hanging out at my house circa 2008:

As to the car, Grady tended to squirrel cars and parts away. Even had semi trailers with cars and parts in them. I'm not surprised at all to see the car in this condition. That aside, I see it selling for north of $55K.

Holy cow. I can't keep up with these prices. I remember when reasonable shape early cars were the same price as an SC when I bought my first 911. I chose an SC because it was better performing, especially out of the box.

911s have definitely become a little too hoppy.

What I don't get is the allure of the longhoods vs. the rest of the aircooled which are all better cars, minus the mid-years, maybe. I guess it is the style, lightness and simplicity. And the fact that most every place around the world these have rusted away ...

They look stunning. Takes a while to get your eye in and re-calibrate, but once seen it cannot be unseen. The want just gets bigger.

Yeah, the long hoods look just right. The platypus (impact bumper) cars can't compete. Well, until the 964 came out.

I don't think that's a final sale.
