UPS fail big time...
I was having a few problems with my HP Pavilion Laptop. Shipped it via UPS as arranged by Hp. Was covered by HP warranty. Laptop was shipped back and delivered to the wrong address. I asked UPS who signed for it . It was not my name. So I look in the phone book and there are 5 people with that surname. The third person out of 5 was the one who received my laptop. It was delivered to the wrong address(one block over) and to a person of a different name. The recipient did not open the box. I thanked them profusely.
Next time I skip the warranty, no shipping of computers anymore. ![]() Guy |

I am waiting to pick up a package handled by FedEx. The package basically arrived in my area on Tuesday morning. It has been within seven miles of me since 5:00 am on Tuesday morning. It is Saturday today. This package travelled the first 1500 miles in less time than it has taken to travel the last seven. Two of the people working at the local FedEx store (where the package is scheduled to be picked up by me) have told me to "Call FedEx" about it. Seriously? I'm standing there talking to the FedEx person, in the store, and being told to call FedEx.

Anytime I have ever shipped my laptop for repair I have removed the hard drive prior to shipping, You are lucky an honest person received it otherwise it could have been a nightmare for you.

UPS delivered several packages on which shipping was prepaid... and demanded a check for shipping (and customs). They never seemed particularly motivated to refund the $600 shipping they double-charged for.

I think they're working on a machine to throw packages out as they drive by. The drivers don't have such good aim when they're going over 30 mph.

I think they run these poor guys ragged. MY last UPS driver was the most stressed out mess of a guy I have ever seen. He would start at 7 am every day, and have to run till 7-8 every night. He had to make something like 80-120 stops per day.
They guy was always covered in sweat, and sounded incredibly frustrated . Never had an extra second to chit chat. He always looked like he was 2 seconds from going postal ( pun intended ) There is a younger guy running the route now, and he seems to be handling it better. Every once in a while, a package gets misplaced , but they have always showed up the next day.

No complaints about ups or the usps here. We ship an average of about 25 packages a day via ups, a few (10 or so ) from our office via usps. Our yearly average of usps mail from all our entry points is easily over 1 million pieces. I think they both do a remarkable job.
Fed-Ex - their service is no better or worse than usps and ups. My grip with them is their trucks, pulling doubles on the highway parked in the fast lane at 71 mph in a 70 zone. They are the most consistently discourteous bunch of drivers I know of.

Fred-you are correct about the driver not having an extra second. Some drivers can handle being pushed and always under the gun, others simply won't.
We implemented a program before I left that was based on the UPS routing system. It literally gives the drivers a certain amount of time to get their route done. Our drivers had to load containers so they were "allowed" x amount of time per container, based on industry standards. We could plug in different parameters for each stop if it applied which would give the driver a bit more time for delays. Unless they had a good reason, they couldn't vary from the routing on roads, either. As manager, I would have to dissect their day and then ask why it took longer than what "the plan" said it should. It was not the best part of my job. Sitting down with the driver at the end of a 10,11,or 12 hour shift to point where they did wrong didn't promote a happy workplace.

My last neighbor was a UPS driver, very weird and high strung. He stated that there are no 'sick' days as a driver, you are allowed 3 mins per stop which sounds like a lot until that stop is on the 8th floor of an office building....................
He said at least I'm an employee where the FedEx driver's are subcontractors.........

Years ago, USPS was notorious for mashing and mangling boxes. UPS came on the scene and did a great job. Now it's reversed. Boxes from USPS come through great, ones from UPS are mashed and torn.
UPS insurance only seems to be worth it if the box disappears entirely. Any damage to the item during shipment, even inside a crushed box, is claimed to be your fault for not packing it well enough.

I shipped at torque wrench to Snap-On to be refurbished and re-certified.
Went to the local UPS outlet with the wrench and some bubble wrap. Bough a mailing tube, and the clerk was sealing up with scotch tape, I asked if he would be using packing tape to finish, he said yes, so I left. Got a e-mail from Snap-On a few days later asking that I call about my wrench, well they had gotten the mailing tube, but no wrench inside (SO said it happens about 2 times a month). Started the claim process and waited, and waited some more. Got another e-mail from SO for me to call and arrange payment on my wrench. Well, before I packed the wrench, I had used packing tape to tape a BAD copy of the shipping label, my phone number and the tracking number handwritten on it. PAID OFF!! the wrench showed up at SO (minus shipping tube I assume). P.S. Snap-On paid for shipping both ways, but after refurbishing/rebuilding the torque wrench, wanted extra to re certify it.

Those guys have a predetermined route with turn by turns. A lot of times the houses don't match up with the "directions". Driver was too lazy to glance at the address before handing it off.
