Interesting segment on CNN about cell phone "addicts"

According to several sociologists.......those who are "addicted" to their cell phone rely on them to reassure them of their self worth.

In other words.....when they are able (via cell phone) connect to other people - it reassures them that they have friends....and are worthy of having friends.

Does this mean they have a weak self-esteem?

I've often wondered why people have to constantly be on their cell phones all the time.

I've seen people unable to back out of their drive without getting on their phone. To the point where they are not operating their vehicle safely.

Man that is sad....

It is sad.

Someone could probably walk through an airport terminal dressed as a Unicorn and most would not notice since they are too busy staring at the cell phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 that does way more than I want it to. It is easier to send a text when I am buying or selling something than my old flip phone, but I still have never accessed the internet or texted/IMd or tweeted any of my friends.....don't even know thier #s. I have the phone to keep in contact while out of town or getting home late........it's NOT my entertainment. I still would rather grab a magazine while in a waiting room, rather than being connected.

I'm sure the idiot that ran a stop sign into me at 60 mph was on his phone at the time he hit me, his ringing phone ended up on the passenger side of my car.

When I used to start work at 5:30am, I would always see people driving into the parking lot, gabbing away on the phone and still gabbing away as they walked into the bldg. Who the hell were they calling at that hour?

Security does notice, I have found. Probably shouldn't have had a rainbow too.

Sitting read a magazine is no different, from sitting read the net from a cell phone IMHO.

I don't shop, read on my phone. I do text now, and mostly talk on it. The traffic map is very nice to have, especially in this town. No, I am never on Pelican through the phone.

I always wonder that in the mornings as well. Don't call me wanting to chit chat. I don't want to talk to you that much or that early.

This seems to be more common among a certain age, sex and racial group. Just an observation.

It was the V8 engine on wheeled skid that caught their attention.

At the recent Thanksgiving we went to my wife's nephew's house. He has two boys, and her other nephew has two boys. We walk in and all 4 boys are like zombies staring at cell phones or tablets.

Geezer voice: Why back in my day at Thanksgiving all the cousins all played in the back room with Lincoln logs and blocks and and imagination, and we were happy to have that! Geezer voice off

Getting it through the scanners was really something.

The scanner did pickup a broken ring and scoring on the #5 cylinder wall so it all worked out.

Shockingly #6, the bad cylinder, is OK, BUT the thrust bearing wasn't. More on that later.

I don't ever chit chat unless I'm laying on the couch with absolutely nothing on tv and nothing better to do. Otherwise, I'll take a vm or text and respond at my convenience. Once in a while I'll take a call while driving, but never without my bluetooth headset. And if it sounds like it's gonna be more than a two min. call, I pull over.
