The "No Fly List"

Have you ever looked at it yourself?

Search the TSA No-Fly List - TSA No-Fly List

I have read that there are a lot of mistakes on it.

Thoughts?

The first page from the link above has 30 names...and 3,281 pages. That equates to 98,430 names.

Quote:
Before the attacks of September 11, 2001, the U.S. federal government had a list of 16 people deemed "no transport" because they "presented a specific known or suspected threat to aviation." The list grew in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks, reaching more than 400 names by November 2001, when responsibility for keeping it was transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

My thought is simple (goes along with my mind), there doesn't appear to be a reliable, objective set of criteria to place a name on the list, nor oversight, nor transparency as to challenges to placement.

While I agree with the logic that someone on the "no-fly" list should not be allowed to purchase weapons, the reliability of the list to identify dangerous individuals is seriously in question. Garbage in, garbage out. As it exists, the list is open to too much abuse.

I heard the easiest way to get your name on that list was to read the list

To be sensible they really HAS to be a way to get a name off of there for the mistakes.

It is a government list after all. No list ever that is that long can be error free.

I do have a problem telling an individual that is really completely innocent of any crime or even the intention of the crime to be barred from a constitutional RIGHT.

It is a difficult problem.

The real TSA (Transportation Security Administration) does not create the no-fly list. The no-fly list is created by the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) so there would be no list on the TSA site.

Who knows what the heck that site you linked to is all about or where they got their list. It certainly was purposely made to confuse people to think it is somehow "official" even though there is a disclaimer. TSA, really? Not intended to confuse?

Way to get suckered there . . . I won't visit that website you linked, because I suspect it is probably part of a malware or scam or data harvest scheme.

I did see on the news that there are 77 people on the actual list that work for TSA. Yeah, that's cool. I think that was on CNN.

Oops, that may have been Homeland Security.

So the "no fly list" only restricts people from flying into or out of this country?

BFD. I never plan to leave the US on a plane and so flying back wouldn't be a problem either.

I work with a guy who is born here but his parents are born in the ME. They are Palestinian. He openly admits he is pro Hamas, anti Israel. He has an app that can scan a bar code and from the app he can see if the product is made in Israel. He won't buy the product if it is. He showed me the app.

He was on the no fly list after 9/11 - something stupid he did. It cost him allot of money and attorney fees to get off it.

Too bad they let him off. At least let him fly one way, no return.

Where does the constitution say you have to be pro-Israel to be an American?. I think people should be free to have their own views. If they act on them, or incite/assist others to act, then that's the go to jail card - assuming the act is criminal.

I was on the watchlist for a while. I couldn't get a boarding pass online including Southwest Airlines so I had a crappy boarding number every time. The counter people were ok with me going to first class or whatever line was shortest since i couldn't even use a kiosk terminal.

Then I got my redress number and all was good. Must have been just a common name since now I'm pre check.

Glad to see folks realize that this "list" is apparently bogus.

I think what we refer to as the "no fly list" is a lot more complicated than just names and addresses, etc.

One of my (unfortunately departed) friends was involved with this government project/program. Don't know any details, but I know how hard he and his colleagues work(ed).

Yes, but they were wrong...as usual. They did not work for Homeland Security as the talking heads claimed (they got the info from a helpful Democrat Congressman who claimed 72 DHS employees). They actually employees of private companies who need aviation industry access. 73 people on the no fly list (airport/airline employees) were not initially caught by the TSA algorithm (but should have been) because they were coded differently and TSA was not given that specific code. There are different ones depending on what access they allow you (culprits range from those who post on PARF to known ISIS terrorist). The DHS IG caught it and TSA would have restricted them to appropriate access immediatey. Actually, 73 out of 900,000 reviewed/audited by the IG is pretty good and their catching their own one mistake is good government at work (despite the fact that they get crapped on every time they find a mistake and fix it).
