here's my man cave ceiling/lights/fan

Three bay detached garage in the backyard, a single bay and a two bay divided by a common wall. In the two bay the floors are done in checkerboard white/black vinyl tiles. Scissor lift sunken into the floor. All walls done with waferboard and painted white. Gladiator cabinets all over the place all that was left was to finish the ceiling. I asked on this forum and several garage forums on something different for the ceiling. I ended up going with 13 ' long painted metal panels that are used for garage ports and metal buildings. They are 36 " wide and it was a pretty tough job for my son and I but we did it. Just finished the install this morning. I wanted a ceiling fan to help move the heat/AC of the Mitsubishi mini split I installed earlier in the year. But to be different I had the downrod of the ceiling fan come thru the center of a BBS race wheel off a Panoz LMP1 race car ! To top it off two rows of track lights 22 ' long each one has eight light holders with 4000k LED floodlights. When I flip that light switch on it's like daytime !

I have a little finish work on one gable end and some fiberglass blown in insulation to add in the attic but other than that basically done. Here's a few pics what do you think ?

Thanks guys a lot of thought and sweat went into that ceiling

. Two years ago my son and I were at Road Atlanta for Petit Lemans. As we strolled the vendor village the Road Atlanta tent had these Panoz race wheels for sale. I studied the wheel for a minute and the light bulb went off. For $50.00 it was a no brainer. My son asked what are you going to do with that ? I just smiled and said you'll see

. The wheel even has the Panoz name and a date written on it in grease pen we mounted the wheel on the ceiling without cleaning it up. It just like it came off the race car. I just think it's a cool touch. The fan is a 60 " remote control with LED lights. Nice and quiet plus I have three wall mounted fans at the front of the garage over the 16 ' work bench so I can move some air

. I still have to finish one gable end, add blown in insulation in the attic and come up with some doors for the mini loft over the garage door. But I'm almost done !!!

I have thought often about a metal ceiling, but I have always wondered if it would make loud noises seem much louder. Things like grinders and power tools.

What do you think, RFirst ?

I don't know I just finished it

But seriously with the wood walls and insulated garage door there is enough material down low to help absorb noise. I don't think it will be an issue plus I'm at a point in my life where I'm doing more maintenance than full blown restorations so big noisy tools will be used at a minimum.

I like it! Especially using the corrugated steel siding on your ceiling. The best feature of that - no drywall to finish! Speaking of which, I still need to go sand the ceiling on my new 3rd car garage that I'm finishing.

Exactly. I basically finished this garage from the floor up so probably backwards from a normal person

. So I did not want to deal with drywall mud and sanding dust then priming/painting. Plus the metal panels are lighter in weight than drywall so easier on the installers ( me ! ) and the roof trusses.
In the attic I have reflective foil stapled to the bottom of the trusses where they meet the roof deck which creates a 3.5 " air barrier. Between the ceiling joists I have R19 Kraft faced insulation stapled with the metal over that. Now I plan on adding fiberglass blown in insulation to about R40 or so total. Being a 4/12 or 5/12 pitch the insulation will be thinner at the ends and thicker as it gets to the center. But I'm hoping to add about 8-10 inches or so. Right now with just the R19 and no ceiling I was cooling/heating the 24 x 26 space for about 20.00 a month ! That was with the heat set at 61 and the AC set at about 78. I would adjust the temps when I was in the garage but it was very comfortable. And that is with one gable end over the mini loft being open to the gable vent so heat/AC loss. I am very happy with my setup.
