Count me in on doing really stoooopid shyt in my teens too!
18 yrs old, April '79, final exams over......buddies and I head out to a local bar in Waterloo, Ontario where we alll get shytfaced (yes, driver included!). We're heading back home in my buddy's Chevy Nova, sharing a big ol' doobie on the way back. I'm in the back seat. We're heading down this four lane road at about 2am on a Tuesday with nobody around when, from the back seat, I suddenly notice a barricade about a hundred yards in front of us....the road is quickly ending and we're doing about 50!...I yell out "Garry the road's gonna end! Stop the car!!!" ..too late!..we plow through the barricade and the car rolls about three times before coming to a stop on it's side...luckily somehow we're all ok as we crawl out the side windows like we were emerging from a submarine. The Nova is a total wreck! The three of us all survived and....are still very much alive and well to this day!
I actually live about 10 minutes away from Canada Olympic Park and I've been down that Bobsleigh track a few times BUT I was in a four-man Bobsleigh, wearing a helmet and properly secured in...what a thrill! We reached about 110Km/hr! BUT I couldn't imagine what those kids did...heading down from the very top, in darkness, no helmet, on a plain sled, and probably head-first...unreal!
RIP and condolences to all families affected
