Who else did stupid stuff when they were 17?

As a parent, I don't know what to make of this story. It sickens me what these parents must be going through losing twin brothers to teen age shenanigans... 24 years ago, this could have been me or my friends.

Calgary bobsled track accident kills twin brothers, injures 6 other teens - Calgary - CBC News

I'm amazed I'm alive, that's for sure.

stealthn 02-08-2016 06:31 PM

Yes truely sad; there but for the grace of God go I

We sat our twins down and talked about it.

For the record I did stupider things at that age.....

sc_rufctr 02-08-2016 06:43 PM

I hate stories like this. I can't even imagine what their parents and their extended family a going through.

Such a stupid loss...

But it should be said. There's no way I'd let my son do something like that.
He's 20 now and I raised him on my own and I always made sure I knew were he was and what he was doing.

I'm a lucky SOB, looking back 45 years.

74-911 02-08-2016 06:59 PM

The better question is perhaps is there anyone here who didn't do stupid things when they were 17.

A Tragic story...

billybek 02-08-2016 07:08 PM

Crazy stuff.
I can't imagine what the parents are going through.
Strange that the boys came into this world together and went out together.

Edit: I am another one of the guys here that was lucky to survive my teens and early 20s...

Don Ro 02-08-2016 07:12 PM

Article goes on about how grim the scene was...I can imagine.
Hitting a concrete gate.
Will the parents sue?

herr_oberst 02-08-2016 07:13 PM

I didn't stop doing stupid things at 17, that's for sure.

JoeyD 02-08-2016 07:29 PM

Who didn't do stupid stuff at 17? And 18? And 19-27?

patz 02-08-2016 07:44 PM

You are a liar if stoopid ended at 17.

LeeH 02-08-2016 08:28 PM

Between cars and motorcycles, it's a miracle that I made it through my teen years.

I feel for the first responders to this one.

WPOZZZ 02-08-2016 08:33 PM

I just turned 51 and still do stupid stuff.

mikester 02-08-2016 08:38 PM

I am hoping I didn't use up too much of my luck early on but to be sure I easily could have.

Rick Lee 02-08-2016 08:44 PM

I was far worse in my mid-20s than in my late teens. But I sure was lucky to make it to the ripe old age of 44.

aap1966 02-08-2016 09:09 PM

We all did.
Now my kids are 15 and 19, I'd be mortified if they did what I did.
(My Dad had a mortal fear of heights, yet still use to drive me to rock climbing, abseiling, etc)

gchappel 02-09-2016 02:36 AM

Yup, did lots of stupid stuff. My wife says I still do.
This story does bring back some horrid memories. When I was a kid several of us built a toboggan run at a local golf coarse closed for the winter. Over a couple of weeks we slowly built and tweaked it. It was fast. Somehow- and I still do not know how- another group found out about the run and tried it themselves. 4 on the toboggan. 4 in the hospital. One for a long time.
Kids do stupid things. All kids make bad decisions- but sometimes the holes in the swiss cheese all line up.
My prayers go out to the families.
Gary

I'm fairly certain that none of them asked or informed their parents that they were hitting the bobsled track at 1 am. Kids don't normally ask before doing something stupid, nor do they tell you after the fact. I did far stupider things that my parents will never know about.
