iphone funfact

I accidentally found out that I can use the volume control on the side of the iphone (5s) as a shutter release when using the camera!

Who knew!

FYI... You can turn on the light without unlocking the phone. Just swipe from the bottom and you'll see lots of options.

Everyone who posts an upside down pic knows that.

Did you know if you "hold" down on certain letter, ie., vowels, they will show the different options for the letter: iìįîôø etc.

To start a video, you tap the red dot. If you want to take a still shot in the middle of the video, without interrupting the video, tap the white dot!

I always wished it would change the view of the letters from upper to lower case when you did that. (course, I haven't upgraded the OS in a while - maybe it does that now?)

I found that if you hit 10 random numbers on the keypad app, sometimes you can talk to other people, but only if you hit the right numbers. The thing is, these people aren't even close to you, they're somewhere completely different. No idea how they do that. It could be just recordings in the phone's memory or something like that. or Siri with a different voice.

If you put it on mute using the switch on the side you can take pics without the fake shutter sound going off. This is good for taking pics of bank robbers while you are laying on the floor.

I always thought it was funny that the sound is a motor drive camera firing. Most devices that take pictures have the stupid fake motor drive sound for a photo.

Actually it makes sense.

Humans need some indication that something they can't see happening has happened.

It was already a universally recognized sound associated with camera function so why not.

But why the motor drive film advance sound. Just a simple click would be enough. And the display blinks out during the exposure.

Back in 1973 I bought my first professional level camera. One of the local radio stations needed to record the sound of a 35 mm camera with a motor drive and the sound engineer was at a news conference for the Governor. He asked me to stop by the radio studio so they could record my camera. I heard it all the time in advertising after that. It sounded just like the fake camera noise of the iPhone but it was not a fake noise.

I was a photo geek. I carried a Hasselblad three backs and three lenses with me everywhere as a senior in high school. The principal let me store the cameras in his office during the school day.

If you push the right combination of numbers on the number pad a guy will show up at your door with a pizza.
