Valet Parking

I hate valet parking. I don't let strangers in my house and I do not like 18 year olds in my car.
Now here is the deal, 82 days in the hospital with my daughter and they have valet parking. At 10 P.M. the parking closes and the valet guys dump all the keys on the hospital floor every night between 10 and 10:15 to arrange them into some order to give the leftover keys to security.
I asked the Valet guys why the keys are arranged on the floor in a hospital. They stated the floors are cleaned regularly. I did not feel that was a good answer so I snapped a few pictures and sent them to the head of the Hospital. Staph, MRSA and a huge list live on a hospital floor. Most of the hospital workers don't even wear their work shoes into their homes.
The policy just got changed.

I hate valet parking as well.

Handing my keys to a stranger is virtually impossible for me. At a hotel in downtown San Francisco they only option was valet parking, or park out on the street. I handed the dude a $20 and asked that he find a good spot. He parked it next to a pillar on the end of the underground parking garage. In 20 years of owning my 911 that is the only valet to drive my car and he went 100 feet as I watched.

I don't like valet parking because I hate the sound of my 911 doing 7,000 rpm when they find the gas pedal. I also don't like the sound of it stalling three times in a row.

Nope. Won't do it. If a place only has valet parking....I'm going somewhere else.

I had a valet parker get really chapped at me for driving my 993 past their station and parking it myself. I didn't tell him I had two guns in the car and that's why I really didn't want him driving it. But I just said I preferred to park it myself. He assured me they deal with a lot of high end cars and would have parked mine up front. I told him I didn't want to be noticed and just didn't want anyone else to drive my car. He walked with me to the restaurant entrance, bending my ear. I was tempted to go have a word with his boss, but left it at that. Next time I had a client meeting there, I rode my bike and, obviously parked it myself. They didn't say anything then.

Another thing I have a hard time is handing the keys over to get it inspected.
Stall... Crunch gears...Stall...Moving now quickly through crowded gas station parking lot...Bottom smashes into car lift rails... Please horn work.. Please lights works...Please pass it... Please god find reverse instead of first and drive it out, not forward through the tool chest in the back of the garage when you dump the clutch.

I need a Xanax.

Many years ago, for some stupid reason I banked downtown and the only parking even close to the bank was their valet parking. I was driving my 914 back then. I get out and I ask the kid if he can drive one of these. He instantly replies that he can drive anything. I hand him my keys and he promptly puts it in 2nd gear and stalls it. He then tried third with another stall.

The roof was off so I leaned over and suggested first gear would be the best choice. He rows around some more and tries second again. Then he looked up at me so I leaned in and put it in first which as anyone familiar with a 901 transmission is against the spring and back. He killed it again. I then suggested it would be best to release the parking brake. Of course he starts looking in the center for the lever, under the dash and everywhere except to the left of the driver's seat. He held up his hands palms up and asked where the parking brake is. I reached in and released the parking brake. He put it in the very first spot that said reserved for bank president.

When I returned he let me back it out and drive off myself.

I finally realized they was no valid reason whatsoever to bank downtown and I changed to a bank close to my office.

One of my Coworkers (who lives in long island) handed his keys to the Valet guy. Funny thing is, he wasn't a Valet guy. He stole his car

I doubt a valet driver could drive my car worse than me. Nice thing with a Porsche is they usually park it up front so you can see it.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine with a new Caddy. He left his car with the valet at the country club, went and played golf, had dinner and came out to find out they didn't have valet service. Car was already in PR!

I work in hospitals daily. That's an asinine thing to do. They just simply do not understand the impact of their actions. Good on you for addressing this!
If they sat through one Blood-borne pathogen training session, maybe they would see the light.
I'm not saying they need to be a germophobe, but as the saying goes..an ounce of prevention.
Btw, it's not just what's on the floors getting on the keys, it's ALSO to prevent what's already ON the keys getting on the floor, and into the hospital.

Besides, if I saw that happen at a restaurant, I'd do the same you did.

I would agree about the hospital thing, seems pretty stupid to me.

I also hate to valet. Fortunately things are pretty low-key in the Midwest, where even the nice restaurants are at most optional valet. I wouldn't let a random stranger drive my car otherwise, why is valet any different?

Wow, my wife doesn't understand why I hate valet, so I'm going to let her read this. Unfortunately, it is popping up all over here as the unwashed view it as a sign they have made it. I offer to drop her at the door and then go find my spot. Typically, the hired valet idiots have commandeered all the best spots, but the walk is worth it to me.
