I've heard great things about it. Unfortunately, I have a set of JIC Magic coilovers. When I wrote PSS in my post, I meant Pilot Super Sports. Mulling a swap if at all possible, but I think I will just get it on stands and fiddle with the settings before I make a move. If I do swao, I will try to move upwards towards a set of Ohlins or something. Doesn't seem worth the effort otherwise.

I believe there is. It's ~$500. I think some flashes also adjust the response. I don't have a Sport Chrono car so the mapping is a bit slower. I don't know if the "issue" is worth $500 to me.

As a SoCal resident, I do oftern wonder about the convertible aspect and what I'm missing out on, but the extra cargo room is pretty effing sweet.

One thing I have noticed is that this car loves to hydroplane. I can't tell if it's the wider tires or what. I'm running 225/285 currently.

07 Cayman S checking in here. Fantastic car. The only complaints I have so far are that these cars are prone to squeaks and rattles from the rear hatch, especially in cold weather. Chock it up to a super stiff chassis. I will echo the strange throttle mapping at low RPMs -- normal takeoffs are weird. Not difficult, mind you... just... weird. The stock exhaust note was also a little conservative for my tastes, but a Fabspeed Maxflo system fixed that. Best upgrade I've ever done to a car.

Did the ECU remap really make that much of a difference?

Could someone explain to me the process of the ECU reflash? How does it work? Like, do you pay the auto shop for doing it, or the software company, or both? I don't totally get it. I'm used to dealing with 1980s Porsches, in which you just buy a performance chip and install it.

I haven't noticed that it's more hydroplane prone than my last 3 cars ('88 911, '97 miata, '04 turbo miata).

Weird, 225/285? Because ALL of the stock tire sizes (18" or 19") were 235 in the front.

I've actually made some visual individualization changes to my car in the past couple weeks: Boxster Spyder side intake grilles to replace the "gills" of the stock side intakes as well as silver Cayman R-style decals to keep the black-n-silver theme going. Now I can actually pick my car out of a lineup!

I had a 2006 Cayman S with full Fabspeed and the FVD tune. Compared to other Caymans I felt like the entire range of acceleration was more linear and it definitely pulled harder at the top end. It also had PSS9s, deep sump, GT3 LCAs, was lowered and aligned to Cayman R specs, and probably a few other things I am forgetting. It was an absolute scalpel, way more fun than a stock Cayman S.

Jeez, Matt, many Caymans have you owned?! I think my next move will probably be the ECU reflash, but I would like to lower it slightly, too -- nothing too dramatic: I still want to be able to pull into my in-laws' driveway. I've been reading up on sway bar setups, and have also thought about going to a stiffer rear bar to make the car a bit more neutral instead of its current tendency to understeer slightly.

Oops, yes 235 in the front. I am running aftermarket wheels with what looks to be 11" rears.

Full disclosure, I came from a Subaru WRX where I ran 225 all around. Maybe the additional traction and pizza cutter tires made it feel like I never hydroplaned? All I know is rain or dry, I drove it the same. In the Cayman, rain driving requires more attention.

Thanks! The Boxster Spyder vents were a little pricey for what they are, but I thought it was just the best look for my particular car. If I had a light-colored car, I'd probably opt for the stock vents, but have them painted black; personally, I think the Spyder vents' silver outline look perfect in conjunction with the silver accents on the car -- wheels, R-style side stripes, clear side markers, rear badge, etc.

For Caymans I have had two 2006 S and a 2009 base. I actually had the two 2006s at the same time, one was the aforementioned modified car and the other was a loaded stock model with PASM, Sport Chrono, and 19" Sport Classics. I greatly preferred the modified car in every way.
