Had my 95 for 6 years now.
Couple of quick checks, courtesy of a friend up north with a 993. C4? Probably driven some in the snow, even though they will say no. Look carefully around windshield gasket, also near side mirrors for rust. Pop trunk, fold carpet back, and throw the lever to pop out the lights. look for rust behind the lights on the mounting surfaces in the fender area, headlight buckets. Also a good area to check for repaints/ color mismatch.

I've had my '95 993 cab for about 4 years now. I'm so impressed at how reliable its been. My wife and I have driven it all over the US. She has said its one of the most comfortable cars she's ridden in which surprized me because I've had my share of nice vehicles. I'm starting to think she may like it more than I do!

Very good point. The 993 cabs aren't crazy prices as the more rare models like the C2S, C4S, and TT. $40k opens up a LOT of possibilities.

If you are considering it, just go in knowing that a C4 Cab is one of the least desirable configurations, and negotiate accordingly.
The only thing that could make it worse would be a Tiptronic trans. One with wear issues, non-original wheels, and road rash would be a sub-$30k car for me.

As Matt mentioned, there are a bunch of choices with a budget of $40k. You could probably be in a 997 Cab for $10k less that what they guy is asking for that car, or even something like a 996 TT Cab.

Call that guy up and tell him that you can't afford his Porsche but you'd like the number for his crack dealer. Must be some amazing product.

Funny how you can drop some non-sugar-coated "reality" in the Puerto Vallarta thread (which I agree with) and you are an "oracle of travel experience". I do the same here, and I'm a dick. Gotcha.

It's just the way it is. A C4 Cab isn't going to command the same premium as a 6-spd C2 Coupe (or even a C2 Cab).
I never said they were bad cars, just the least desirable configuration (especially with the Tip). This is coming from a former Cab owner.

So, if you actually prefer that model and body style, let it work to your advantage when buying/negotiating. That's all I'm saying.

Ooooh I forgot, your 993 is a C4 cab, isn't it? Is that where the butt-hurt is coming from?

Here you go:

1995 Red C4 Cab w/ black interior, manual, original wheels, non-sagging headliner, 84k miles, Looks fairly clean. Asking $35K:
Cars for Sale: Used 1995 Porsche 911 in Carrera 4, Brookfield CT: 06804 Details - Convertible - Autotrader

Jerry -

If you are seriously considering the black C4, I would use listings like the one above as data-points in negotiation. Just the fact that the seller wouldn't have to hassle with listing the car for sale should buy you a little negotiating power.
Add in the fact that the car above has original wheels, no road rash or sagging (aftermarket) top issues, and you have shouldn't have any problem articulating/substantiating an offer well below what he is asking. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice/education. I told the mechanic $30k to low $30's was where I thought the car would sell and I might be interested in it if the owner wanted an easy deal. He said he was going to list the car at $40k, fine. It's not a car I am going to chase.

I didn't realize you could still get any 993 for so cheap. Maybe I should go shopping. I thought they were all $60K+ now. Seen a few over $100K on the market. Insane. Looks like a beautiful car, hope you get it!!

Just having s little fun with Eric

I'm well aware that Cabs are bottom of the barrel. That will change eventually, but it's going to be a while.

I'd love a "his and hers" but I don't even drive my coupe enough! Those red cabs look great! I think they look best with the tops up actually!

Wait until the 993 hits the historic vehicle status in Germany 10 years from now ... Brace yourself ...
