First man to lift 500 Ib in competition

He won gold medals at 1972 and 1976 summer Olympics held more than 80
world records, and was the first man to ever lift 500 Ib clean and jerk.
his name is Vasily Alexeev the famous russian .Now read about his diet,
During his lifting career he was said to have eaten a 36 egg omelette for
breakfast every morning, and drank 20 pints of beer a day.
Have you ever tried to lift 500Ib above your head.
sorry about the poor photos.

I'm not sure I could lift a 36 egg omelette over my head!

That is like 200-240 gr. of protein every morning. And just the morning.... Bet he needed the beer to wash it off. That is my daily protein consumption.

500 clean and jerk reps is outrageous. Have you seen the squad and deadlift WRs from the Arnold classics this year? People are hitting 1000lbs, crazy.

As soon as I saw the picture, I recognized him from watching the Olympics. He was probably mostly organic diet and excersize that got him to that achievment. The guys lifting at the Arnold Classic, probably not so much

I wonder how many steroids he had to go with all those meals. I remember that era of the East German "women's" swimming team all looked like male lumberjacks.

Definitely natural. That's still amazing, even if he is juicing.

As a young teenager, I got to see a guy named Paul Anderson wrestle as a pro. My dad took me to see it. He did that for a while after giving up lifting (I think). He had won the Olympic competition in 1956. At 5'10" and 320 lb., he was built like a fire hydrant. Before the match, he did a lifting demonstration where he lifted 390 lb. His thighs must have been something like 50 inches each, and he had to sort of waddle to walk. I watched him pick up a guy that was 6'6" and 260 lb. & litterally throw him across the ring. In a second match, he picked a guy up and squeezed him until the guy became unconscious. Of course lots of it was show I guess, but the amount of power he displayed was undeniable.

I met Mr. Alexeev at the Goodwill Games in Spokane in what must have been the mid to late 1980's. He was coaching by then. He didn't speak a word of English (nor I Russian), but myself and a couple of lifting buddies had a great time hanging out with him.
