TSA Pre✓ or Global Entry or NEXUS
Below is a link to the comparison chart of the DHS Trusted Traveler programs. I am not travelling as much as I used to, but every time that I fly I think that I should signup for one of the programs.
But, I have stared at the chart and am thinking that I am missing something. The NEXUS program is only $50 for five years and includes all of the benefits of TSA Pre✓ ($85) and Global Entry ($100). The only drawback I see is that they have a limited number of enrollment centers for NEXUS, all on the Canadian border. But, I am heading to Niagara Falls next month so I could take care of it then. Is there anything I misunderstand of this program? https://www.dhs.gov/comparison-chart |

I have Nexus. Properly used it gets you pre-checked.
But a lot of US airports have no Nexus or pre-checked' express lines. Primary benefit is crossing the border, both driving and flying.

I travel a lot and have TSA PRE. it was kind of a pain in the hiney to get because they don't do this locally, so I had to travel a couple of hours to get it done.
But it was definitely worth it. This has saved me an incredible amount of time. An added bonus is that when I am traveling with my husband, and buy both tickets at the same time, he gets TSA PRE as well. So we just waltz through the security screening. angela

I am tsa pre and it can be a great asset but not all airports have a pre check line at all hours. when I then have to wait in the long standard line...It really pisses me off!!!!!

I have the Global Entry due to its well global, for traveling abroad and all the perks of the domestic stuff.
You do have to register as a Trusted Traveler (or whatever the individual airline calls it) for any airline that you will be flying with to get the benefits prior to purchasing a ticket. It's a one time thing per airline.

So...
Let me get this straight... The government created a huge wasteful bureaucracy that make air travel a PITA. And now we have to pay extra to sidestep that bureaucracy?

Get Global Entry. It is only $15 more than pre-check, but it includes pre-check and if you ever travel out of the country, you can bypass the super long immigration lines.

For Global they do a backround check, fingerprints and facial scan. So make sure your closet is skeleton free or you will lose you application fee.
Not sure how deep the others go.

GE is the bomb!
Yes, they do a quite thorough background check. If you've been arrested, you'll be denied.

Anyone know out of curiosity the difference in the background check for these services versus what you'd go through for say a CCW permit?

I was one of the first people in the Country to have Global Entry. And one of the first to use it, and the first to have an immigration officer not know what he was doing, sitting in the GE line. 2008, if I remember.
Global Entry gives you TSA Pre, as people have said above. And you get to skip the lines at immigrations AND customs. Customs lines are usually bad too! It was full finger prints for both. Basically, anyone who can get a CHL/LTC/CCW should be eligible for Global Entry.

My sisters husband was denied. And the issue was 50 years ago and pretty minor.

Actually, what they did is figure out a way to make you PAY to VOLUNTARILY GIVE THEM your FINGERPRINTS. So, anyway, I have TSA Pre. ![]() If I did it again I would do GE because of the short immigration line, as mentioned.

Nexus also bumps you to the front of the security line for domestic flights.

I've gotten plenty of CCWs and renewals, but I have been arrested once. Am I SOL?

"arrested" <> "convicted". If the standard here is an arrest for anything (which is nothing more than an accusation, really without any sort of due process) I have a real issue with it - security or not. Cops get it wrong all the time.

I copped a plea and part of the deal was that it got buried. I doubt it would ever be found. Again, plenty of CCWs and renewals haven't found it.

ANY arrest is grounds for immediate denial. You will not get GE. They do have an ombudsman dept, where you can plead your case.
