Not again!!! Tale of automible opportunities lost

The local Ford dealer phoned today to update me on my quest to own a 2016. I had contacted them back in October to reserve a test drive, knowing the vehicle was not going to be available until April. A friendly reminder in February to ensure he knew I was still interested and to see if he had any news on a release date. He indicated that it didn't show up yet in the national Ford tracking system and he would keep me informed. Today he calls to let me know that it does finally show up in the system. He doesn't know if he will be able to get one for a test drive as there are only 18 listed.......in the whole nation!!!!

Reminds me of my stillborn effort to purchase a VW GTD that was yanked at the 11th hour last year, no doubt due to the known-but-not-yet-disclosed diesel engine debacle.

The RS is still being offered, may just be near impossible to get my hands on one!

If you wanted one that bad couldn't you have just put a deposit on it, giving you first in line?

Yeah - just order one - how bad can it be?

I got "hot hatch" out of my system with a ms3 - I think 4wd would have helped!

If they are like most dealers today, the hot cars are offered to the best paying customers first.

Want to make the test drive before I commit. Lot of $$$ for a Focus, but would be worth it if it really fulfills my needs/desire. Not so great if the resulting ride, due to western NY roads, beats me to death every day.

I guess I could always put a deposit down to secure the test drive and first dibs on the car. If I don't like it, I could possibly sell the spot in line for a tidy profit if they are going to be that hard to come by, but that just seems to be so counter-productive and greedy.

C'mon man, it is a $35k 350hp compact car! There is nothing sensible about buying it, are you trying to pretend to be responsible towards your spouse? Skip the test drive!

Seriously, like you said, you can probably sell it for what you paid if it is indeed that rare. And if not, take a hit and move on.

Dave the 2016 Ford Focus RS is written up in the May edition of Automobile Magazine. FYI the concluding paragraph states that the RS does not reach the level of a Golf R or an STI but still provides lots of fun...

I am going to be the bearer of bad news:

You will not get a chance to put a deposit on a 2016 RS test drive. Some dealers were given an allocation of 1 or 2. We have been in contact with our sales person since November 2014. We put a deposit down in October to order it, choosing options and colors. Most people are paying ADM of 4-15K. If you really want an RS, you need to look over the focusrs.org website. You may be able to get a lead there.

Top Gear Magazine has named it Car of Year. Top Gear Magazine Names 2016 Ford Focus RS Car of the Year | The News Wheel

Good Luck.

That's a bummer. I've had my eyes on one of these too, but I had no idea they'd be so hard to get... Kinda takes it off my list unfortunately.

Have you driven the ST version? I know, completely different car... but curious.

Hope it works out.

Had the dealer spec out an ST back in September, because...do I really need 350Hp?, but that came in at $31 as quoted, with some discounts on top of that. At that price point, the RS seemed to be the better deal, for what you were getting. But as we have seen, things change. A GTI is looking very favorable now, no hatch for the STI this year anyway, a VW R is still an option that I would need to look at again as well.

And like Tabs stated, it's just for point a to point b!
