Stereo guys, VSS connection for head unit in 2008 Boxster
Folks, anyone know where to get/tap the VSS/Speed dependent Vol Control/speed pulse signal wire in a 2008 Boxster for a headunit to have the volume adjust with the speed of the vehicle?
This Pelican article covers 1997-2004. I'd like to be certain that the 2008 is the same before I go connecting things. Porsche Boxster iPod Integration and Stereo Head Unit Replacement - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article The sad thing (to me) is that my stereo has a GPS, but it requires the speed pulse signal from the car to do the whole speed sensitive volume control thing rather than just using the GPS. I guess they'd have too many problems with spotty GPS signals and the volume fluctuating.

Are you sure you want it? I've never had a car where I didn't disable that feature.
It might be a challenge, the newer cars with the MOST fiber optic network are a challenge to work with. It might be a data signal on a bus rather than a discrete voltage signal that you can get by tapping a wire. I assume you are buying the MOST integration kit for connection to your stock amplifiers?

I like it, or at least, I did in the '04 miata. It had 7 different possible volume curve options that you could set. The Pioneer that I have has 3 or 4. It would be nice, because as I go faster, the stereo does get a bit harder to hear with the soft top.
Yes, I have the MOST system. I was afraid of that. I guess whatever MOST adapter the installer used must not provide the VSS to the head unit. I was hoping there was a wire somewhere that I could tap.

I don't know for certain, but almost everything in the newer Porsches goes through the fiber optic MOST databus as opposed to discrete signals. The joy of technology.
