What car did you learn to drive with?

I'm getting a bit old and been here for quite a while and I don't remember a post asking about this. We get questions on should I have plastic surgery, my butt has stuck shut what should I do, ETC, ETC. Anyways on a much more serious note......what car did you take your first driving lessons with? In my case it was a 1963 Corvair with an AUTOMATIC transmission! Sure was easy to parallel park.

'67 VW squareback with a 4 sp manual. A great memory for me.

Dad took me to his company parking lot to start learning how to drive when I was 13. After a couple lessons he said "drive us home!" which was ~ 5 miles in Goleta CA. Waiting for a green light a police car rolls along side. Man I was stressed - the plastic steering wheel was coated in sweat from my hands. Dad just laughed and told me to relax. Got home no problems.

I'm a bit younger than some of you old timers lol, mine was a mid-eighties Monte Carlo SS that belonged to my grandparents. Had a fairly week 305 V8 but it sure felt like it could melt the pavement when you're just learning to drive.

1980 Chevy Citation

My best friend was 4 years older so I could legally drive with him. He showed me the finer points of driving in his Trans Am and then a 1968 GTO.

My first car was a 1966 Corvair with the auto on the dashboard. Fun car and the ONLY one at my high school.

A '44 military Jeep. Three on the floor & a transfer case. We had such fun with it as a family driving around with our hair blowing in the air. Of course there weren't any seat belts & the three of us kids sat in the little seats in the back & on the floor. It was painted black (probably with a paint brush) and had white wheels. My dad had a half I-beam welded on the front brackets & said, "OK come on, your going to learn to drive."

1967 Austin Healey 3000 Mk. III. Rode with my dad as he drove it out of the showroom and then learned my "stick and rudder" skills in it 11 years later. I still use those skills in my 911.

I learned to drive in a 1968 Chevy Nova.
I learned to drive a stick-shift in a 1972 International Scout.

The first car I owned (mine, all mine) was a 1972 Pontiac Lemans Sport with the Endura option. It looked sorta like this, but in a more hideous shade of green.

Define learn.

I had driven an early CJ-4 with a 4 banger whan I was 11-12ish, Mom and dad had a 1978 Dodge Maxivan that would do 80 in second, 1978 Dodge Magnum with similar gearing but not the power of the van when I had a permit. Got my motorcycle license with a Yamaha XT-600.

67 Chevy Impala 2 door auto. Smooth turns were impossible for me but with practice I became a high speed pro.

I owned one of those (a 59) but a buddy used to say: 36 'screaming teutonic' hp. I learned to drive a few years earlier (54 Chevy) - that beetle was a riot & you mentioning it sure does bring back a lot of post high school memories. Thanks for the 'buzz' Glen.

Cheers
JB
