My low flow toilet uses 5 gals of water/flush.

It's an apartment toilet. Stamped 0.8 gallons per flush. If you toss in a wad of TP it won't flush it until it soaks up and sinks near the hole. If you're just getting back from a tour of a Mexican bran muffin factory all bets are off. Repeated flushes. I'm happy it reloads fast and water is included in my rent. I miss my TOTO!!

You need an auxillary "emergency" bucket of water sitting at the ready, next to the toilet, for those high fiber occasions.

I replaced all my toilets w/ TOTOs about 3-4 years ago. Our house had builders grade Gerber toilets that would clog with only pee in there. I posted here and TOTO Drake was the #1 model recommended by the PPOT braintrust, so that's what I bought and they have worked flawlessly ever since.

This convinced my wife that the PPOT braintrust might not be a bunch of car loving idiots after all...now when we have to make a decision on something to buy/build/change she now says "you should ask those Pelican guys, they'll know".

Champion 4 none on the floor! Installed one of these in the new bathroom in the basement.

I need to replace the throne in the main bath. Would go with another Champion 4.

Downside is they are a little noisy....

Try oatmeal.

No issues in my house with watersaver toilets. My second one was even paid for by the water district. I expect more than 1 flush on large jobs, but majority is liquid work, probably several dozen flushes a day, so they do save me a lot of water.

I don't get this need for toilets that would flush a bag of cement. You really need to work on your nutrition if that's what's required. Plus, nobody says you can't flush mid-job!

our new American Standard low-water usage throne flushes beautifully.
we actually had to special order it.
the local rednecks hate water conservation. and they eat a lot of garbage.

hahha..
my middle name is oatmeal.

and i love a mega flush water saver..so you can actually get away with one mega low flow flush.

my last toilets were the Toto Drake mentioned above..very low flow with a 3" opening..genius. there is zero change of a plug up.none.

Caroma also makes a great low volume flusher.

Some of the older low flows were pretty bad, like 15 years ago. A modern low flow is designed for much better function.

Just put in a Toto Vespin II, must admit great amount of skepticism as to whether that tiny amount of water can get rid of a 30cm python extruded from my backside...

Well, push me over with a feather and cover me with Metamucil, it has been zero problem. The thing flushes as smooth as lies from Hillary's lips.....

So a gallon of water weighs 8.3 pounds. If you crap more than 6.6 pounds of poo plus TP, then you'll need to turbocharge your flush with a big bucket of additional clear water with no poo in it.

The toilets that the builder put in our house were crappy, and mostly tried to make the um "deposit" dizzy but did not want to make it go away. They would clog up with a woman's pee with a light wipe. We replaced them with American Standard toilets that never ever plug up, ever. Low flush volume and fast. And we went with the comfort height. Much better unless you are just 3 feet tall or shorter.

My $85 Costco Toilet Model from 2015 has a low and high volume flush button. 0.8 vs. 1.2 gal, IIRC. That's the one the water district refunded me 100%. I think more low volume toilets are having this feature now. Currently the water district will deliver a low use toilet for free, if you have an old one with 1.6 gal or higher per flush to trade!

One thing to worry about with all this low volume flushing and appliances - are your sewer lines moving enough?

I had a friend in college, who made it a ritual to steal every high volume toilet he encountered in a rental/etc, and replace it with a low volume toilet. To this day, I remember him unbolting the old cans, installing new donuts, and lugging his trophies to his truck.

He SAW the need coming. He WAS visionary. I understood his rational, but thought it overkill.

Somewhere, right now, I'd like to think he just took a big huge dump and flushed it in one simple push of the lever, with a big smile on his face. Goodbye Mr Hankey! God knows he deserved it.

Lots of toilets now are dual flush handles - up for #1 and down for #. I've seen them (and specter them) for LEED buildings (helps with water conservation credits). The most common are a Sloan product (green colored handle - also incorporates an anti-microbial coating - I believe the plastic has a slight electrical charge that's supposed to mess with bacterial cell membranes and help to kill them or at least impede their reproduction). Here's some info:

I tell everyone I'm the greenest man in the land because I whiz in sinks wherever possible. Saved millions of gallons all by myself.
