Hmm....while this might sound like a good idea, i believe it's just diluting things even further. I saw many good forums go thin beacuse overambitious moderators...

What about Texas
There is no forum for those of us who unfortunately have to live in Texas. Texas is big enough for its' own forum

Geography Quiz -
So, what other state is missing (besides Texas, but that doesn't matter 'cause they're an empire unto themselves)?

adjectives aside, I'm with Goran. The "one-stop-shop" nature of this board is one of the key qualities. The internet has in many ways removed geographical borders. To artificially reinstall them on the board is imho destined to failure. And it will annoy the pigs.

Well I'm doubly hosed. I'm a Sooner living in Texas. Neither are on there.

And forego the rantings of the crazies that live in La La Land? To not enjoy the whinings of our Australian brethren?
And then there's the problem of giving advice and having less than the entire world hear me. No, I am much to megamaniacal for that. And I'd miss you guys.

Seems like a great Idea.. but we all seem to gravitate back to the good ole 911 tech forum where all of our friends are..

Why not just forget the regional forum and have an Event forum?

I don’t think there has been a regional connection problem on this board. When ever someone wants to get the attention of those in their area, putting the region in the subject seems to have worked very well, has always worked well for me anyway. Also, It’s kind of neat to see what guys around the world are up to, i.e. drives, clinics, etc. All of this interaction is in one place where everyone can see it and often gives other ideas to do the same, further increasing the bond and reach of this board.
I would probably miss more posts that would normal interest me b/c my sessions would turn into jumping between the tech board and my region board. I would think guys that just get on a couple times a week to see what’s been happening would miss even more. Is the intent to get the tech board more “on topic” and get the local event stuff out of it? I can understand that but IMO it would take away a lot more from this board than it would give. I think both work very well together right here.

While I *did* post a little message under "Canada", it was more out of sheer nationalistic pride than anything else.
Heck...a couple of months ago I suggested Wayne start up a board just for engine rebuilding topics. Most of you shot the idea down....too many splinters. OK, but I still think that would be at least more useful than a bunch of regional boards. Anyway, I predict they (regional boards) will be pretty lonely. But they should provide some extra employment for the modervaters.

Paul, a few of my Pelican friends know that I'm actually half "ammerikun". I'm a dual citizen, proud of my affiliation with both great countries.

I appreciate you thoughts on expansion Wayne. Problems I see with it are 1. It further fragments the healthy amount of subscribers you have at any time. One thing immensely valuable about Pelican, is that if you really need an answer, you will get it. Many of the local PCA chapters have boards and you would be lucky to get one reply in a few days. 2. I find it interesting what people are doing in CA, FL, Australia, England, etc. I don't think the regional differences matter much as far as Porsche information. Most people want to read what others are actually doing with there car. All I could do is post a picture of my car on jackstands. Not too interesting. 3. Organizing a meeting in a area as big as the regions that are specified is improbable. Many of the big cities are still 5-10 hours away in our area.Cities would be more usable, but that would them leave about 4 people that I see post from my area and about 100 subregions in addition.
I think it will come under use during big regional events, ( Hershey swap meet, Peeble beach, etc). Size matters and you certainly have got it with the 911 board. |

Ouch!

I think he meant:
