Thougths on these two guns

Snake Slayer - Bond Arms

I really want the 45LC/410, because it can fire a .410.

Versus this: About the same price. A .380

I think I can get either one for around $500.

P238 Rosewood

I WANT the Bond because it will fire a .410, It may be what I need for a rattlesnake gun. In a situation, the Sig may be more useful.

Do you have a license to carry or will this weapon only be at home?
If it is a home defense weapon get a large capacity 9mm or better.
Are you proficient with semi auto's...? Is your wife?

You could get a .357 Revolver and have both...you can use .38 Cal. snake shot in a .357 and still have a very effective home defense weapon. A revolver is also safer for a less trained ind. (wife)

I'd only rec. a .380 for ease of concealed carry.

Whatever you get shoot it enough and often enough for memory motion.

I suspect you meant to put this in the off topic section aye?

.357 with snake shot would be just the ticket for carrying around when you are liable to come upon a rattler. Wheel gun is the droid you are after. Wear good stout boots too

We have discussed the various handguns available in .410 at length. I hate to say "do a search", but I will, just this once. They are, essentially, a very bad idea by any measure - very ineffective, with far better marketing hype than real world performance. They sound "bad ass", but they are anything but.

Pistol shot guns aren't legal in CA. Snake shot is.

Hugh, if the objective is .410 to shoot snakes, why not get a .410 shotgun?

I doubt I would be satisfied with two rounds. Things happen. That is why you are buying.

Only person I know who uses a derringer for CCW carries several at one time... If reptiles are a real concern - you are hiking or biking in wilderness - a revolver with shot capsules as the first two rounds. Or carry 2 guns - the derringer for snakes and a "proper" pistol for 2 coyotes, thighs, etc

Yep, and then saw off the stock and most of the barrel ..... No wait, bad idea. Scratch that.

When I was a yoot, I spent countless hours wandering the deserts of Southern New Mexico.
Saw lots and lots O'rattlers.

I found that my grandfather's 22 revolver did just fine on rabbits, snakes, whatever that desert had to offer.
Of sure, once in a while I mighta had to use more than one round, but 22lr cartridges are still relatively cheeeeeep.

Just make sure ya know what's on the other side of that hill, and what kind of rock might just be hidden under that dirt.
22's have been known to ricko-chet and go a long ways before stopping.

SIG! The snake slayer is a neat toy but otherwise useless.

What Jeff and Tobra said. A snake load out of any decent caliber revolver is much better - plus, you can load a couple snake shot and the rest hard bullets in case there is more than a snake to worry about.

i'd venture a guess that most snakes are killed with a stick or a rock.

get the .380.

I have never shot a snake. I have run them over the head with my truck, got them with a stick, hit them with a shovel and also just left them alone, not to get my dogs interested in them. If I lived on land with snakes like Hugh, I'd still like the idea to pack some heat for snakes, coyotes, desert meth heads ... etc. ...

A 410 has got plenty of firepower. The pellets are moving just like a 12 gauge - just less of them.

There should be plenty of reviews around for the Judge. You can also buy 410 slugs. Probably a bit pointless in this gun as you can fire .45 long Colt, but fun in a regular .410.

Guys, that Judge is crap. You don't need a .410 to shoot a snake. And for self defense it is useless too. It isn't a good LC either, as it is too long a cylinder for a LC. Also, you can't buy it in CA. One of the few times I am not too upset about that. JMHO!

All you need is a sturdy walking stick, a machete, and some common sense... so that means you don't do anything these guys did after :55 into this video:
