Good quali at Austria F!
Good and exciting quali today., Should make for a good race don't ya think?
For a simple, short racetrack, it always has lots of mishaps, setbacks which over the years has bit a lot of big names in the a**. This time Rosberg of all people. Kyvat was to be expected. Four races this month (July), we'll be busy! |

Watching Q1 right now.
Finally the curbs are doing their jobs. Keep off the curbs and you won't have a problem. If they'd wanted to include that part of the surface as part of the track they wouldn't have put the curbs there.

Pretty lame move by Rossberg, last lap nonsense. It's tough having two contenders on the same team.
Seemed like the team all but handed the win to Rossberg with the tire call on the last pit stop. Then Hamilton got fired up when he realized what had been done, and off he went with extra motivation. Beautiful track and location. Cheers Richard |

Didn't get to watch this race, so the blame goes to Britney?
Ham seemed to make sense with post race comments, Rosberg looked guilty. Can't find any vids of last lap, anyone got one they can post here? |

Rosberg did not seem to be even attempting to make the corner, he seemed to be aiming to take up the track space where Hambone was going to go rather than just making his turn and working it from there. Stewards should have penalized Rosberg more than 10 seconds, he has no means of controlling the red mist in his head....
not sure what the score is, but Hambone beats Rosberg pretty well every time there is a car to car dice. Rosberg = fair weather ballet dancer Hambone = Down and dirty lounge louche Meanwhile...what about that Verstappen kid? Complete with lederhosen..... Dennis |

They said something about Rosberg's brakes going away.
Wonder if he didn't have any and would have taken out both cars on that turn if he'd turned in normally? We may never know.

This will go down as one of the most memorable finishes to a race ever. It's right up there with Senna/Prost and Magnuson/Bergmeister.
Hamilton did the pass on the outside. If Rossberg had stuck to the racing line, Hamilton's move might not have worked. Instead, Rossberg did what he's done so many times: he left no room on the track for his teammate, forcing a collision. This is at least the second time this season he has chosen to hit his teammate rather than let his low probability move fail.

Brake by wire failure just before that turn according to Racecar Engineering. So the amount of rear brake force he'd get would be a mystery until he pressed the pedal. Not sure if he knew the bbw had failed either - they'd probably have a warning light for that.

Failure at just that moment seems...hmmm...a little overly coincidental.....
I am sure no one in F1 tries to cook the books, but just sayin'.... Dennis |

The report did say that this was a factor, not the factor, in the crash. My guess from the way Hamilton caught him at the end, and all the dust coming from Rosberg's brakes earlier, is that they were slowly going away and after get got passed he threw caution to the wind and then they finally broke all the way, which happened at a bad time considering he would have braked as late as possible.

Even if his brakes were not optimum and he could not turn in (cough, cough), he didn't even give Ham room to rejoin the track. Dick move there. I'm watching the Sky F1 post-race and they are replaying the video over and over and Rosberg is pushing Ham off the track.
Good to see Verstappen (cool Lederhosen!) and Kimi on the podium. Fun race to watch - love the short track.

I would think the FIA had access to the telemetry, and they penalized Rosberg anyway, so its pretty obvious it was just a very hard move to thwart Hamilton. Rosberg knew he didn't have anything for him on the last lap. I prefer Rosberg over Hamilton, but they are both really starting to wear on me. Would have liked to see a red car battling with them at the end. Beautiful track.

Very. I'm loving watching the Sky F1 broadcast this season. In the pre-race buildup, they went to Red Bull's Hanger 7 and 8 in a DC-6 escorted by a Corsair and Extra 300 - the hanger is awesome, complete with (Brit accent mandatory), "James Bond villain board room." The production quality is amazing, they don't interrupt the race with commercials, and the analysis on the Sky Pad is really helpful to understand what's going on in the cockpit.
The unscripted driver interactions make me like most of the drivers a lot more. Lewis was being interviewed after the Canadian GP, and Vettel crashed it to talk about the suicidal Seagull that bothered him. The interchange was fantastic. When the winners go to the ready room before the podium, Fox cuts away for the Analysts to blather. Sky puts the open mike on and you can listen to the drivers chat about the race - really cool. As a result, I like Vettel a lot more than when we was at Red Bull, Hamilton as well. Rosberg comes off as a petulant child, which is what Hamilton is accused of ironically. Verstappen however - he's the real deal. Great move to take Kvyvat down, wonder how long he'll last...

From what Mercedes said after the incident, the brake problem was existing before they got to that corner. Toto gave the impression it was a problem on the lap before that one, which helped Hambone catch Nico. Nico mentioned in his first post-race interview that part of the incident was due to his desire to get in Hambone's way, so it wasn't just a brake problem.
Hambone wins this one, on the track and off. JR |

Cool video about the incident at F1.com
There is a good comparison of Rosberg's line from the lap before where he hits the apex instead of going way wide to push Hamilton off track. One thing I disagree with the announcers is when they say Rosberg brakes way early before the next turn, possibly because he has brake problems, I would say it was more likely that he had to brake early because he had no front downforce.
