Good watch for under $1,500
I've been wearing a Seiko for 16 years. Never missed a beat. My wife wants me to get a "nicer" watch. Care to recommend a good new/used Swiss watch?
Any opinion of Tissot? About $700. ![]()

There was a recent watch thread on here with a similar theme, started by vash. Search for it and you'll get a LOT of suggestions.

Look no further, although slightly higher than your budget. I do not think you can wrong with this one. Only one dealer in the US. But I looked at them in person in London. Amazing watches, extremely heavy duty.

Any interest in vintage? You could get a nice vintage for $1500. Omega Speedmaster Auto 3510.50 comes to mind.

I've mentioned Christopher Ward watches before but I think it's a great small brand and a lot of watch for the money. 1500 would go far there.

there are lots. You could always get a nicer Seiko. Seiko makes some very nice watches, or does she think that Seiko is a cheap brand?
What style of watch are you looking for? diver, military, casual, gold, etc.... Give us examples of the look that you or she is thinking of and we can offer better suggestions. What kind of Seiko do you have? And what do you or the missus think constitutes a better watch, quartz, automatic, etc... The Tissot that you posted just looks like an overpriced quartz watch to me. I have a hard time seeing a watch with an analog and digital display as "nicer". If that's what you are looking for, there are lots and lots of watches in that style for <$200-300.

To be fair, when I say she wants me to get a nicer one it is for me, not for her. She is not showy.
The one I have is one she gave me. She just notices that I notice other mens' watches.

dont pay that much for a quartz watch.
I had a 700$ hamilton which was fantastic, I gave it to my brother. I am currently wearing a Ball which I bought used for about 1000$. It is really cool and durable. I say get a hamilton, oris, nicer seiko, used omega, or longines in that price range.

Check out Ollech and Wajs stuff at Home of WestCoasTime
Again, what look and sort of stuff do you like? Do you like a busy dial or a simple dial? Do you want something with markers and hands that glow something more like a dress watch? Will you wear the watch everyday or just occasionally?

New or are you willing to buy used? Quartz or automatic? Any functions you want/need? Date/day? Chronograph? Level of water resistance?

How about something like this? It's a Seamaster DeVille in blue from the early '60s. I had one of these, a date model, which was stolen from my apartment about ten years ago. It's on my short list if I ever buy another nice watch. IMO this is ten times cooler and much more unique than any modern watch you could buy for $1500.

There is a lot of territory to cover for "nice" watches under $1500. To my tastes I would be looking at a Seiko Tuna, a Khaki king auto, or a Sinn 656 Fleiger or 756 drupal but I am not you.
Why dont you tell us: Do you care about mechanical vs quartz? Are you looking for new only, or would used be an option? I assume this is a "wear it every single day" watch? What kind of features do you want? Date? 2 time zones? Tachymeter? Alarm? What general style floats your boat, dressyish watches like the DeVille above? Diver watches like the U1? Tool/pilot watches like the hamilton khaki?

You can find a nice, vintage Glycine Airman in that price range if you're good with vintage stuff. Great all around watch, looks great in jeans and a T or dressed up and some neat history to the brand and model. You can also find some of their modern stuff in that price range. Actually, the Glycine Combat easily fits your price range and is a damn fine all around basic watch.

OP - you will get a very nice watch for >1500, Timezone.com is great place to buy and sell in the USA. Vintage- Omega, IWC, Zenith, Rolex, Le Coultre- worth looking often very under valued because of the lack of bling.
