You know Jeff, I wasn't going to say anything but I feel compelled due to a quote by Weisel upon receiving the Nobel Prize: "We must speak, we must take sides, for neutrality helps the oppressor — never the victim," he said upon receiving the prize.

I'm a fairly non observant Jew. I can assure you that the holocost is a very sensitive topic tome, many of my older relatives and most every Jew I've ever been around. While I never saw his tattoos, I saw plenty on my older relatives and their friends.

This board it typically an inclusive place; that's why I enjoy frequenting it. You and I probably even know each other in real life as I've been in the CO Porsche racing community for a long time. I doubt you'd say your words to my face; at least I would assume and hope not.

This is more about honoring my dad and grandfather's legacy than any personal problem I may have with you. It's just that I believe you probably don't understand how insensitive and ignorant your comments are to me.

For the record, I share your sentiment Jess. My daughter and I recently read Man's Search for Meaning by Wiesel. A more thoughtful and enlightened analysis does not exist. Our moron has doubtless not read (or understood) a word the man has written..

Elie said a lot of correct and truthful things. I would agree with his quote above whole heartedly.

What I can't excuse and what I think dishonors the dead and those who survived was his insistence on claiming who he was and the description of his experiences during WWII.

The truth should be universally important to everyone and I'd say it to whomever, wherever.

I would agree, conspiracy theories offer easy answers to difficult questions. Most should be discounted out of hand. But that does not change the fact that many people have been duped by the long con. Even in the present day much less during the chaos of war time.

I believe there are many unanswered questions about Elie Wiesel. So sue me... big whoop.

Considering there's a pretty good chance you're wrong, it's interesting that you chose to make it an issue now that he's only recently passed away. The world needs to be reminded EVERY DAY how evil human beings can behave in the construct of wide scale evil. Elie did this in a very humble, consistent and persistent way for his whole life.

All Jews that came in to Auschwitz when Weisel did were tattooed unless they were to be killed immediately. In other words, all Jews living in the camp were tattooed. Also, Weisel claims to have been tattooed.

My grandparents survived Belsen, so my father told me, because I didn't feel the need to ask them for documentary evidence. They never discussed it, but I do remember my grandmother telling me a couple of things that were sufficiently telling.
