“Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed,” Mr. Wiesel wrote hauntingly of his experience. “Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live long as God himself. Never.”
Rest in peace dear Elie. You've seen more than any human should and used your experiences to educate generations. Shalom.

He was almost surely a fraud.
Never showed his camp number. Too many other discrepancies to list.

Quote:
I'm a fairly non observant Jew. I can assure you that the holocost is a very sensitive topic tome, many of my older relatives and most every Jew I've ever been around. While I never saw his tattoos, I saw plenty on my older relatives and their friends. This board it typically an inclusive place; that's why I enjoy frequenting it. You and I probably even know each other in real life as I've been in the CO Porsche racing community for a long time. I doubt you'd say your words to my face; at least I would assume and hope not. This is more about honoring my dad and grandfather's legacy than any personal problem I may have with you. It's just that I believe you probably don't understand how insensitive and ignorant your comments are to me. Jess Wurmbrand |

^^^This. Jeff is demonstrating again that stupidity and arrogance are not a good mix. A thoughtless moron.
For the record, I share your sentiment Jess. My daughter and I recently read Man's Search for Meaning by Wiesel. A more thoughtful and enlightened analysis does not exist. Our moron has doubtless not read (or understood) a word the man has written.. Rest in Peace Elie. You'll never need to endure the stupidity of people like manbridge ever again. .

Elie said a lot of correct and truthful things. I would agree with his quote above whole heartedly.
What I can't excuse and what I think dishonors the dead and those who survived was his insistence on claiming who he was and the description of his experiences during WWII. The truth should be universally important to everyone and I'd say it to whomever, wherever.

The gullible believe what they want to believe.
-The first steps on the moon actually happened in Hollywood, right? Lots of evidence. -9/11 was masterminded by the Jews in cooperation with the Bush administration, of course, just look at the evidence. -Heck, some claim the Holocaust never happened. They'll be happy to regale you with evidence. You can find conspiracy stories for almost anything. Have at it, but think before you demean.

I would agree, conspiracy theories offer easy answers to difficult questions. Most should be discounted out of hand. But that does not change the fact that many people have been duped by the long con. Even in the present day much less during the chaos of war time.
I believe there are many unanswered questions about Elie Wiesel. So sue me... big whoop. Guess we'll find out on judgement day.

Considering there's a pretty good chance you're wrong, it's interesting that you chose to make it an issue now that he's only recently passed away. Everyone is entitled to their neuroses, but common sense and decorum would encourage many to discuss it when it's not a fresh wound for so many. Perhaps that's just not who you are.

I don't believe a wise man must be perfect to be revered. A lot of great people made mistakes in their lives.

People tell terrible stories about Mother Teresa, too.......
I wonder how vacant a soul has to be to disparage the reputation of a man who brought so much to humanity. The world needs to be reminded EVERY DAY how evil human beings can behave in the construct of wide scale evil. Elie did this in a very humble, consistent and persistent way for his whole life. THAT is the man I (a non Jew, from the other side of the world) take a moment of silence for and honor as a hero. "manbridge", you couldn't have simply said something to honor the good work this man did??????? People like you suck. |

All Jews that came in to Auschwitz when Weisel did were tattooed unless they were to be killed immediately. In other words, all Jews living in the camp were tattooed. Also, Weisel claims to have been tattooed.

My grandparents survived Belsen, so my father told me, because I didn't feel the need to ask them for documentary evidence. They never discussed it, but I do remember my grandmother telling me a couple of things that were sufficiently telling.
Never throw away the dirty water until you have clean water The one thing that the Nazis couldn't take away from their victims was their education.
