Tim Duncan is Retiring... a true class act

19 years with the Spurs. The best power forward in NBA history with 5 NBA championships, 15 times an all-star, and on and on. No grand farewell tour, Popovich apparently will make the official announcement (Duncan doesn't even have a Twitter account).

Probably the most unselfish player to ever play the game and talk about loyalty... not sure there will ever be another group like Duncan, Parker, Ginobli and Popovich.

Really hate to see him go but he said he knew when it was time to go he would go.

I knew he was going to be good when I saw him at Wake Forest. Just not how good. You are absolutely right: A True Class Act.

The basketball era I grew up watching is drawing to a close...TD has been a joy to watch throughout all these years.

Oddly enough, I was just watching some of his old highlights via the Spurs Facebook. And I totally forgot that he used to be able to jump. Hahaha!

Probably one of, if not the, most underspoken super stars in the NBA. A true gentleman from the era before basketball became a contact sport.

Not sure what this means. Basketball from the early-80s to late-90s was a very rugged game.

I must be getting old. I was thinking more of the late '60's early '70's type of basketball where they wore short shorts and never seemed to touch each other.

Didn't get away with traveling or palming the ball much either.

Timmy learned from everybody, and everybody learned from Timmy. What a great player.

Very humble person. We live in the same zip code and my gym is next to an Orange Leaf (frozen yogurt). I see him with his kids at that place at least twice a month. He sits quietly and watches his kids eat frozen yogurt. Funny thing is noone bothers him either. Kind of the whole town knows he is a very reserved person and people respect that. San Antonio can not pay enough to Timmy for what he did for this town and the franchise. Certainly a different era for Spurs. A little sad but also excited.

I also believe he is the next coach of Spurs when Pop decides to hang the coat.

Pop has always intimated when Tim hangs it up he won't be far behind so it may be interesting to see what develops.

Personally, I can't really see Tim wanting to be a head coach but who knows ?

Pop just signed an extension through '18 or '19, didn't he?

Hadn't heard this! I always though the big fundamental sounded ridiculous, but he was just that. Never been a spurs fan, but mad respect to Duncan.

I don't see him as having the right temperament to be a coach. Leading by example works better for a player than a coach.

I clearly remember the shave gel commercials with Duncan and Robinson when he was a rookie...had no idea that was 19 years ago. Damn I'm getting old.
