McDonald's new electronic menu WTH are they thinking?

I normally do not eat that crap. Today, I was stuck in heavy traffic trying to get to the hospital to visit my father and just didn't want to deal with the traffic and heat. Off to McDonald I go. I grew up eating Big Macs and Filet-o-fish and that's about the only thing I know. As I look and try to see the new chicken sandwiches the manu changes on me before I had a chance to see what the heck I was looking at. It changes about 10 seconds and there are only a few items on the screen. Who the hell came up with that? It must be for the kids with short attention spans.
Why don't they just list the items and the pricing on that screen and leave it. I am sitting there waiting for the stupid thing to recycle itself so I can see the sandwiches again. IN the mean time, there are people waiting for me. The dumb girl behind the counter is no help. She kept asking me what number I wanted. You guys have that in your neck of the woods?

Most customers either come in because they know what they want or saw something new on TV and want to try it. I doubt they really care about repeat business from someone who "does not eat that crap".

Yes it's crap but like all other businesses they are feeling the pinch. They have the self serve touch terminals locally...
They work OK but I'd rather order and pay at the counter. My children on the other hand like using them because he don't have to deal with a human!

But how are you supposed to know which "number" to tell the overpaid counter girl if the screen keeps flipping. This world is obviously getting far too technical, too quickly, with only the teens, and young adults able to decipher it all with their OCD attention spans.

Unfortunately this WILL be the wave of the future thanks to $15 an hour minimum wage pushers.....they just don't realize that they are replaceable.

You go in for a bacon cheese mcgriddle so you scan the first word of each title for "Bacon" and then only check the titles that start with "bacon" for "bacon, egg and cheese mcgriddle". It shouldn't take more than 10 seconds to find #7.

In McDonald's the other day and this entire thread unfolded in my head.
The menus toggled ridiculously fast.
I couldn't follow it.
Haven't been in in years.
McDonalds is crap and I don't even want to be here.
If kids can really follow this, I am old and irrelevant
They didn't just put those boards up there, there must have been a study group that gave feedback, and the target audience must have been cool with it.
I am not the target audience.
But how about those retired people who meet and eat with their friends every morning in Mc'd's, hardees, etc. crowd?
They must know what they want, surely they cannot follow this.
Crap I'm advancing in line and need to decide.
I need to stay calm. I need to focus.
Damn her fingernails are long.
I like the calorie counter things, but I can't follow that anymore than the menu. Which is still toggling tooo quickly.
I can't follow it. The line is getting shorter
I am now in front. No decision yet.
F##$this...
Cash register person:
"order please"

Me default:
Single cheesburger. Large fries. Diet coke (because I am health conscious )

(Edit- epiloque)
That was an expensive meal
I could have eaten at a real restaurant for that price
I need to get back on the road
This parking lot is filthy
These kids scare me, how do they afford the food?
kids please don't hurt me
This parking lot egress is poorly designed
This stoplight sucks, I can't get over to the gas station.
#$%F this two bit town... I'm outta here!
.and on and on...

Last time I was in Wally-Mart (which I typically avoid, but just go with it here...) I was told by an employee as I approached the money-extraction end of the store that "the self-checkout lines are available for my convenience". I pondered informing this poor, obviously cognitively-challenged individual that she was actually encouraging me to replace her and her paycheck with a piece of technology. I felt an obligation to inform her that I actually prefer to deal with a human in order to support the payrolls for those less fortunate than I am who still are willing to demonstrate a little industriousness and self-pride by working a menial job to support themselves rather than sitting at home on their asses collecting welfare. I looked at this woman - her hollow, dead eyes and automaton-like mannerisms. Somewhere in there was a flickering spark of determination and pride - why else would she work in a place like this? It compelled me. The words rise into my throat. I HAD to help this poor woman help herself by sharing my knowledge and insight. She needed to realize that she was asking me to have a robot replace her and her work ethic and those of her coworkers so that more money could flow to do-nothing middle managers, executive fat cats and greedy Wall Street investment fund traders. Oh how I wanted to help this poor tortured soul trying to lift herself up by her own bootstraps! It made my soul ache!

Then I just said "eff it". The self-checkout line was shorter. And it was closer to the ZigZags.

Some Einsteins decided that companies who employ people with little to no skilz and little to no edumacation and who are capable of completing only the simplest tasks should be FORCED to pay them $15 a friggin hour.

That's why!

It's a shame that no one ever told her that she should pay attention in school, study, work hard and get good grades, get a good education so she could get a good job when she grew up.
That's important information and it should not be kept a secret!

I will also have to check out the local McD's to see if they have the new fangled electronic flipy signs.

I'm a Jack in the Box guy myself

I don't know this but possibly all the fast food joints have an app for your smart phone with he full searchable menus?

One of them's been that way for years; I started to order on the 'pad' but had a question.

Only one person of about 8 working there spoke any English, and she was not good at it.

I just left.

I think someone started another thread here about how a bunch of mid-priced sit down restaurants are installing pads at every table.

At a recent visit to such a restaurant the waitress showed us how to pay the bill with the tablet.

Mind you I LIKE being served by a real human being.

But you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see where this is heading.
