Jeep Patriots for $12K
I saw a link to that and it's real. $7-8K off of MSRPs starts them out at $12K. Cheap car for super cheap...

Buddy has one, I drove him from Colorado to Florida in it. If he hadn't adjusted the seats and then crammed the back so full I couldn't re-adjust 'em it would've been a nice ride.

How long have they been making these? Saw one the other day with a blue trail following. POS IMHO!

Elk Grove Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram SRT | Vehicles for sale in Elk Grove, CA 95757
I was told the Berkeley store had even bigger discounts, but don't see them.

GF owns one. It's been pretty reliable and she drives a lot for work. Any car that can survive the suck-ass winters here for 2-3 years without major issues can't be all that bad. Not for me but not necessarily as bad as the hive-mind / groupthink hater crowd suggests.

Is the model being discontinued? I bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee in the Spring of 2001 and they were heavily discounted, since it was the last year of them.

Manual Transmission. Has Air Conditioning. Sat. Radio.
Actually sounds like a very good deal.

I did some brief research when I first read the OP and it appears that 2016 or 2017 (not sure since I was skim reading) will be the last years of the Patriot. That certainly puts the discounting into context.

Car and Driver says it continues. Doesn't matter, really.

I've had them for rentals, really terrible cars. You get what you pay for.

Jeep Compass, Patriot will stick around for 2017 model year - Autoblog
Both Patriot and Compass appear to be scheduled to be replaced at the end of the 2017 model year. Agree, it doesn't really matter.

IIRC they came out for MY2006. I was an engineer at Chrysler at the time, and was pretty familiar with them. The early ones had really terrible interiors (thanks, Bob Nardelli.) I never liked the CVT much (it was a Jatco unit, eseentially the same as that used on the Nissan Versa, but with DCX's own calibration) and neither did a lot of customers. With a diesel (VW 2.0, not sold in the US) and a manual it was pretty OK. They've never been better than decent, I think, but they are decent. If you could get a new one for that little money and had a good reason for buying a new car like that, it doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Sounds like a decent transportation appliance for a school age kid. New car warranty for used car prices.
