Thanks guys. This feels surreal, I just can't believe it. The first one gone, Dart, was not one to go into the street at all. Then when Racer was let out hours later with his momma, surely found Dart, his brother, dead across the street. He then got whacked on the way back crossing the street. Their momma, and I saw Racer get mowed down, she rushed directly to him, and I knew he was gone by her reaction.

So sad. RIP lil buddies.

That sucks!
Sorry to hear about your little buddies misfortune.

I just got home from work. No one home. Then I heard a rustling on the kitchen counter, saw a grocery bag move, and heard a couple things get knocked over. Found someone stuck in a plastic grocery bag. She's trouble, this little one. She's about 5 months-old. My daughter named her Daisy, but it seems like we each have a different name for her: Babaganoush, Noodles (she flops in your arms like the proverbial wet noodle when carrying her), Magic, Ghost (she's sneaky quiet, and always here one moment, gone the next), Toothless (like the dragon from the animated movie series), Kiwi, Shifty. We also thought of Kiki, but some nurses I work with warned against that, as it translates into vagina in Tagalog slang.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Matt.

mattdavis11 09-04-2020 04:16 PM

Thank you.

It was tough walking in the house today. We still have the momma and 4 six week old kittens, however, momma is now relentless in her search for her boys that are now gone.

Momma is not happy. It's so sad. For some silly reason, I thought I could handle the emotions should anything such as this happen, maybe because I'm allergic to them, but no, at least not right now.

They brought such joy and laughter, love and companionship from day 1, and for that I am thankful.

Matt, apologies for being so insensitive as I posted my assistant pics. We had to put our Shadow to sleep 5 tom6 months ago. Understand the situation. My assistant along with his brother have filled in the void. Sorry for your loss

No apology necessary. The picture of your assistant reminded me of Dart, they look similar, and from the looks of it, similar character.

The little ones are helping us heal. I wish I had taken a picture of the little one sleeping in the water bowl this morning. All curled up, reserving the spot to have the first drink!

Sorry for the hijack. Carry on!

I think my little 10yo buddy had a stroke today.

He sleeps in sometimes but didn't show up for dinner tonight. Went downstairs and he was laying there mewing. Gave him some food and he lapped it up. Very affectionate. His head was moving and he'd shake when his ears were rubbed. Normal cognition. That was good. But his back right leg was limp and unresponsive. I played with his foot and got no claw reaction. I first was thinking he dislocated a hip or a vertebrae jumping down somehow. Gave him some soft rub-downs and then some slow harder ones along the spine to se if there was a problem area. The back hip area was a bit tight but the skin rolled/stretched all the way to the back. Then I noticed his front right paw was completely unresponsive as well. He is alert but unable to get up. I will go down and sleep with him tonight.

An odd cat observation:
His fur is normally very soft and fine. Always. And he sheds a lot. Today he had one hard clump which I brushed out with some effort. I thought he got into something outside. But when I went downstairs tonight his whole back was clumped up almost instantly. Something to consider..

Damn, just saw this -- sorry man.

"I will go down and sleep with him tonight." You're a good cat dad . . .

Don't know what trouble he got into, but we took him to the vet yesterday (hence the shaving) and they cleaned it up and gave him some antibiotics.

Well not really but I try. Was fully expecting to put him down the next day and glad that did not happen. But I briefly got to see what life would be without the little basterd who lies about wanting to go outside, tries to trip me at every opportunity, knows just when I'm busy, sheds hair everywhere, complains about three types of food, and gets jealous whenever I pet the dawg. I was never a cat person before but the little monster turned me into one. They become part of us.

The right-side paralyzation was probably a blood clot or stroke. Had to drag him into the box for almost a week but he has since almost recovered. The vets were diagnosing nervous system disease or brain tumor, but those won't present so suddenly I would guess. And also a "no" to the neurological clinic for a $4500 MRI geesh. I played with his feet and generally humiliated him until he bounced back. That little half-limping bugger then ran off for a few days out of protest just before I went out of town.

He's already been hit by a car(chunk of hipbone broken and piece of ear missing), Got bit in the throat real good(abscesses next to carotid drained twice), recovered from severe wheezing(diagnosed as lung cancer), and now this. I'm probably forgetting a few more incidents but he's used up a few of his nine lives.

My new boy... born 31/5 on the Pond farm (old farm WW1 bunkers and museum).
So the new kid is called Shrapnel von Pondfarm,
aka Hans Landa . Charming but deadly (as all my tomcats need a movie villain name to live up to)

Shrapnel is very happy to be here, he came on 1st of august and has adapted to the non farm life with much ease (much more and better fud, house furniture is much nicer then the barn)..

The older cats are at times a bit overwhelmed by the youthful enthusiasm (badgering them) but in general they are cool with the new kid.

I think he'll be a small kitty like his mother is. but that's just fine with me
He already payed some rent : caught a mouse and a frog

He's very good looking and likes to sit on his new hoomin whenever he can
And his coat is extremely soft to the touch like velvet.
