Percy got into it again with the cat next door

Ohhh, poor Percy!

seems to be same eye each time, work on his left defense.

to be honest, it's odd that he keeps getting in scraps with the same cat, normally they have scraps with roaming ferals and tomcats..
But typically house cats will actively patrol at avoidance intervals, eg, they will go out at times when they are not expected to run into one another.

There was a BBC documentary where they tracked all cats in a neigborhood, and it was very visible..

They also found that cat flaps meant a house could see up to 2-3 neighbor cats coming in for a nibble.

When cat from House 1 went out to the east Cat from house 2 would either stay in or sync his patrol to make sure he's west when 1 is east.


So it's rather strange that Percy keeps getting in trouble with same cat nextdoor.
I'm inclined to think there's something else at play.

Are you sure it's a cat? Did you see the fight?
I would think Percy at some point will avoid going there.

I'd lend you my cat if I could. The neighbour's cat has had to be put back together by the vet twice now. I guess that's what stopped neighbour's cat from picking on my other (disabled) cat.

Or my youngest one. Shrapnel von Pondfarm , got him off a farm full of WW1 relics and a full size replica WW1 mkIV tank, he was born next to the tracks, the pick of the litter.
He's 1 year old , but has successfully cleared the entire neighborhood of any and all rifraf.

Fearless, strong and agile. Made of rubber.

2 months ago he got a bite in his toe , abscessed and took a while to clear up.
Didn't really bother him much. Hard as nails.. the Vet squeezed out the abscess and he didn't even flinch.

but found out later that the other one from across the road was really beaten up 2 months ago and that was the last we've seen of Basil who was pretty much unchallenged till then.

GP at 21 agrees, he has 1001 places to nap.
he likes the tall grass a lot.

But he got no teeth, so he can't fight or catch mice no more..
He's a big boy tho, so nobody tries to fight him, except for adopted grandson Shrapnel. They get a long and GP taught him everything he knows.

Adam likes the sinks. Although we have to turn the house water main off when we take trips. He has been known to turn the taps on......🙄

21 is good! This one got to be twenty one and a half. She had lots of cat friends who were very kindly to her.

I don't own cats, they simply decide that my house has suitable infrastructure, service and fud.

a nice window sill with a view is very important for my 8 year old girl cat.

yes it is, he seems to be in perfect shape, shiny in his coat, he's having fun
Had a scare in december 2019 when he hid in a corner and wasn't eating
turned out he had a bacterial infection, 3 days of Antibiotics and he was chipper again
the girls at the vet place all loved him , he's a real charmer.
his kidneys are in perfect shape according to the vet which for a cat his age is exceptional.

I got him from a lady who was on cancer end, he was 17 then.
I think he must have been a pub cat at some point because he REALLY likes people
somebody visits, he'll go sit with them like he wants to strike up a conversation.

he will occasionally patrol
chase the girl cat (he's jealous)
but all in all, he's a nice and friendly geriatric cat, who enjoys life

I didn't witness this specific incident (or the two before it!) but I have seen the cat in question get into it with others; had to break it up with a garden hose once.

Taking these guys to the vet is a PITA right now - everything is booked up until late August. I normally could call or just show up right when they open, to drop him off for when they have some time for him; not this time. I had to take Percy to the emergency vet, where it's $200 just to walk in the door, and then a 4-hour wait.

Now this one has managed to get some sort of gum/tooth/mouth issue in the past day or so on his left/lower jaw. He won't let me get a good picture of it.

it's a problem with older cats, GP had it bad just before he got to me his previous caretaker had all his teeth pulled, sounds drastic but he's been infection free since, he can't bite, so real meat is problematic unless minced really fine.. but dry fud no problem and wet fud jelly, looooves it.


Cats are the worst patients, hiding their pain, and not really being very easy to treat..
It's terribly frustrating when you have a sick or hurt one and can't really get to the bottom of it.

200 bucks and 4 hours wait, that's shocking really.

That is probably not too young. Many years ago we had a 4 year old with a couple of infected teeth. When they were removed, it was like a personality transplant. He became arguably one of the best cats we have ever owned.
