A real honorable man admits things, especially when faced with insurmountable evidence. They don't slither around. Embarrassing. Sad.
Edit: A real honorable man admits wrongs without any prompting whatsoever.

Sad, sad, sad, Fint.... But we all know the truth. Don't tout "honor" and "morals" to us all and display this blatant hypocrisy of anything but that to the board. You've really shown a disturbing level of blatant dishonesty and shamefulness in your sad and pathetic attempts at muddying that which is very clear. So long... I see you're already getting blasted on the other thread. Surprise, surprise....

That's not a good analogy and that's not what we are discussing. A better analogy would be me advertising a desk on CL for $500. A guy calls and says he really wants to see the desk but cant make it until 7:30. I promise to hold it for him but for reasons unknown still show the desk to others even though I promised to hold it. A fellow shows up and offers me $550.00 but I say no because I promised to hold the desk for the first guy. Then I start a thread called "keeping your word" explaining how important it is to keep your word and how slimy people are when they break it. During the course of this thread I discover the desk is actually worth 750.00 instead of the 500 I originally advertised it for. When the 7:30 guy shows up I raise the price to 750.00 and finish the sale. "Keeping your word" lol

You only promised to not sell it before he could look at it. He still has to make an acceptable offer. If someone else makes a better offer before he shows up you do what OP did, accept his offer, which is not an agreement to sell it to him, it's simply saying if the other guy does not take it or I don't sell it to him then you are next in line, unless someone else comes along and beats his offer. 7:30 guy may not have been happy but apparently was not so upset that he told OP to **** off and left without buying the car. A decision made of free will unless OP held a gun to his head and promised either his signature or his brains would be on the check.

Agreed, but the person that showed up only offered $250.00 more than the original asking price of 28K. You would be correct if he sold it for slightly above the $28,250, but the price of $32k was not arrived upon because of any prior offers, it was due to to new information and a re-price. This is the part that seems unscrupulous.

Personally, I wouldn't take advantage of an uninformed seller as I'm simply not motivated by $ enough to do that and I wouldn't like myself very much. I believe in being fair...to BOTH parties, and then both end up being happy...seems that's what happened here. |

If I see a car advertised on CL for $28k, call and make an appointment to see it, I'd be pretty pissed if the guy springs a higher price once I get there. If, however, at the time I make the appointment he tells me the price is now $32k, I think that's fine - I haven't wasted my time or gas.
If I were the seller, I'd have called the first guy back and told him a) the price is now $32k, or b) I'm pulling it off the market. Waiting for him to show up and spring the $4k price increase on him seems douchey to me (I'm making a big assumption about how this all went down, mind you). |

There are exceptions, though. If I showed up with $28k and saw before me a mint 1973 RS, I'd tell him to take the car off the market and find out what it's worth. If he were to offer the car stating "Accepting offers from $28k to $32k", then I would not expect him to take my $28k necessarily. |

The difference is that the seller knew the condition of the car when he set the price. The buyer did not.

I wonder if Henry's buyer knows PP exists...it would be interesting to hear his take on the transaction...maybe restore Henry's integrity, and keep Henry from burning in hell for all of eternity, or much worse...demomized on PPOT

Exactly. And this is exactly what the OP said was discussed with the prospective buyer and they agreed on terms. Frankly, given the market, 94k on the clock, and clean, $32k is a steal. The OP could've held out a couple of days and fielded higher offers easily if he wanted to.

Nothing new there, Rod. We already know this information and no one's disputing it. If the guy would've shown up early, and not in the evening after others had driven the price up, probably would've gotten it for $28k. This has been covered already. $32k was the new buy price based on interest/offers - buyer accepted.
