We'll all be waiting for an update later. IMHO, that price for a G50 car may be a bit low in today's market, but who knows....

Shaun @ Tru6 08-26-2016 01:04 PM

Haven't seen pics of the car but but it's worth $35K+ if in nice shape. As a coupe, high $30s, low $40s.

This happened to me recently on a 240Z with 30K original miles. I saw within an hour of CL posting but decided to wait until the morning. The seller let me know someone else had emailed and he had first crack, I was next. For $13K, I knew the first guy was going to get it. I appreciated that the seller wanted to let the first guy who contacted him look at it first.

I think you did the right thing. If you agreed to let the guy see it at 7:30 then he's first in line. But at 7:31 with no phone call/email/text, all bets are off. :)

Post the CL ad.

wildthing 08-26-2016 01:18 PM

The correct response to the first guy is: if it's still here at 730, you can check it out.

I've dealt with flakes and decent guys on C/L. I bought my Porsche from C/L. Agree with everyone. First guy with cash wins. If he gave a deposit, you can hold it.

87 Targa at 28k seems priced to sell. If there are no major issues, buyer would be so lucky. So good luck.

Yeah, I would have started at $35K minimum, maybe $37K if you aren't in a hurry.

masraum 08-26-2016 01:44 PM

Wow, looks great in the pic. I'm not tracking the market, but that certainly seems way too cheap to me unless there are a bunch of problems with the car that you haven't told us about.

Ten to one, at least one or two of the folks contacting you are wanting to flip the car to make a quick $5-10 grand.

Hopefully, the guy that actually gets it wants it for himself. Someone that really wants the car getting a good deal, somehow seems better than a flipper getting a really good deal.

Scott Douglas 08-26-2016 01:44 PM

Sorry, I was getting a sore neck.

If I were in your position I think I'd pull the ad and say I'm reconsidering. No money has changed hands.

I agree. Car does take a nice pic and does have its small problems. Air dosnt work, wipers won't work, has some marks and dings in the paint, just small b.s.

sugarwood 08-26-2016 01:57 PM

Yup, G50 and under 100k miles is more like $35k-$40k.
I'm curious what you'll do when 7:30 guy starts to haggle you.

This is a nice looking car. I think since you haven't shaken on the deal yet, so to speak, you'd be within your rights to tell the first guy when he shows up, that given the time to think about it, you've reconsidered selling at this point. No harm, no foul. If he'd shown up sooner you would have sold him the car, but, he didn't and that allowed you to re-think the situation.

wildthing 08-26-2016 02:22 PM

Start at 37k neg. PPI will reveal small things that don't work. How much to fix all those that don't work? $2k? Let go at $35k.

Vipergrün 08-26-2016 02:56 PM

Case and point;

1984 Porsche 911 Carrera **SALE PENDING**

Baz 08-26-2016 03:26 PM

You did the right thing Henry to let the first guy who contacted you have first crack.....even if it involves a wait.

I've run across items for sale but couldn't get there right away and the seller would almost always say no problem, I'll hold it for you.

FWIW, in retrospect I know I sold my last Porsche for less than I should have. So, if it's not too late, maybe you should re-consider your asking price. But that's something you will have to decide for yourself. Doing that would NOT be going back on your word and NO ONE would blame you for that.

Cash talks, BS walks in my book.

^^^^^^^^Yes - I am all about this ^^^^^^°^^^^^The answer is I have listed the car for sale, 1st cash buyer gets it. If you really are a buyer send me $500 non refundable deposit via Paypal within the next 30 mins

creaturecat 08-26-2016 04:08 PM

seems fair. all the way around.
you keep your word. you get what you wanted for it .......

SoCal911T 08-26-2016 04:45 PM

Like others, I've dealt with too many Craigslist flakes and wouldn't have held the car for the 7:30 guy either.
I bought a BMW off Craigslist last year where the guy listed it on a Saturday after my bank had already closed. I gave him a personal check for 10% of the purchase price and asked him to hold it for one week as I was going out of town for a work conference. It worked out because it gave time for the check to clear and for him to get a SMOG cert. I told him if I flaked, he could keep the deposit and in return, he refused higher offers while I was out of town.

MBAtarga 08-26-2016 04:45 PM

How soon before we see it for sale here for $40k OBO?

Brian 162 08-26-2016 05:35 PM

You did the right thing. Around 17 yrs. ago I was selling a K5 Blazer. I got a few calls but one guy said he was busy can you wait a couple of days. I said no problem. Meanwhile a few other people called. I told everyone you can come and look at it but I promised it to the first guy.
One guy showed up (travelled 150 miles). He had the asking price in cash. He couldn't believe I wouldn't sell it to him. I told him I promised it to the first guy.
The first guy showed up and gave me the asking price.
Some of you think I'm nuts but I'm a man of my word. If I make a promise I keep it.
