Whats the longest you have let a car sit ?

I am sure most of us have done it, when I moved my biz, I let my sc fester for 5 years.
I finally just got my 930 going after a 3 year nap. I tried to get it going in the spring, but 5 miles out of the shop,I heard some horrible grinding noises followed by electrical smelling smoke . The alternator locked up. First replacement showed up damaged from shipping ,the second replacement lost in the mail, and when it finally came , it was faulty. While trying to diagnose the cause of my gen light not going out , something happened to my fuel pump circut, and the car quit running. I just got pissed, and let it sit all summer . Played with other cars for a while till I got the urge to have a go at it again
Finally got it all sorted tonight and back on line . Feels good .

I let mine sit for only about six months and the front brake calipers seized up. Didn't take long.

My Corvette has been sitting since 95... It wouldn't start one day at university so I towed it home. Haven't driven it since.

I have a 83 280ZX Turbo with a 5 speed that has sat even longer.

Seven years on a 93 Celica Alltrac. Cranked right up. Thermostat was stuck cold though.

22 years -- I just removed the gas tank tonight and busted half the fuses and blocks. Funny, I'm surprised I don't feel Like letting it sit another few years....

I've got a 73 Fiat 500 that's been sitting for about 14 years. It's well stored but it's needs most of its rubber bits replaced.
No gas in the tank and the brake fluid hasn't been touched in all that time.

The engine? Not sure but it still turns by hand.

Not my car when it sat but now its mine. I bought a 72 race car from a friend that was built 12 years ago. The 2.7 POC V3 Motor and tranny was done by Jerry Woods. He lost interest and left it in storage. It ran for about 20 min of shake down at Willow Springs. I'm in the process of painting it, making back onto a streetable car without getting rid of too many of the racing goodies. Brakes, fuel lines, carbs redone. getting it back from the painter this Saturday. I am not sure if it actually runs but it shouldn't be an issue. In will know in a couple of weeks. I can't wait with 260hp, about 2300 lbs.

Porsche is going on 18months of only moving between my garage and storage a block away. Need to fix the brake booster and a few other things.

I hate to think of it. My 356 coupe has been sitting for going on 5 years. My 911 is coming up on 10 months. I've got a bullet nose David Bradley garden tractor that's been waiting on me for 21 years.

One of my cars was last raced in 2006.Only needs a clutch but that is a major job on that car, engine and transmission out, whole front end clip off, to get at it.

Going on 10 years with my TR6. It sat for 14 years when I got the car, and after replacing, and refurbishing the fuel system, and overhauling the brake hydraulics, I got 20k miles out of it before the crank thrust bearings fell out.

4 or 5 weeks is my limit. In the dead of winter with salt on the roads I keep the 911 in the garage. For us to have a long stretch of crappy weather is unusual.

This 72 has been sitting for 9 years under my ownership, 4-5 in the previous owners. Divorce, 4 moves, laziness, starting racing all got in the way. I'm now settled and plan to dig in sometime in the next 10 years.

I let my Sentra SE-R sit for close to 8 (!) years. Started to drop the pans for rod bearings, dallied, ran out of time, decided to just do it later, swap a spare engine in and do the bearings with the engine on a stand, zipped it back up. Forgot to drain the bad gas out of it - put some fresh gas in on top, crossed my fingers. Runs badly because of the gas, and the stat seems to be stuck closed. Otherwise A-OK.

2 years on the 73 BMW 2002 (with injectors) - longer than anticipated resto... A little stabil but not as much as required... The damn thing fired right up and ran perfectly after 2 years...
until I discovered when changing wheels that one caliper had seized !

Either stabil is very good (even in very small proportions), or the ethanol gas claims are overblown. All good either way !

My car is still setting on its dolly in the garage. I disassembled it just before I retired ten years+ ago and other things seem to keep taking precedence over getting it back together. Since everything is rebuilt/refurbished, it's just a matter of getting the pieces back together and no problems with things setting around for a long time with fuel, fluids, etc. in them. The body is repainted, suspension & brakes done, wiring fixes almost finished. The engine, carbs, trans, interior, etc., etc. are all rebuilt & waiting. I'm going to have to make a big push to get it finished & on the road before I kick the bucket.

My 911 sat with the previous owner for about 7 years and I took ~4 years to get it moving again. It hasn't sat more than 60 days in a row since then (CIS rebuild).
