It's not the 500 plus horsepower that get the job done on heavy diesel engines...its the 1500 pounds of torque that accompany the mere 500 hp.

There are a number to be found for sale on the Internet.
There is one stored on the property right next to my sister's place here in N Az. I could check if it is available. If you would better describe what you are looking for it might help your search. A good body, a driver, completed conversion? Also what part of the country is best for you? More details could lead to better help. Cheers Richard |
I think there is two styles of the Scenic cruisers.
Both have windows facing front up on the roof. One style is way towards the front , the other about 1/2 back. Either would work. GMC was the major player- Mack made it for a very short time too. A runner of any sort is perffect to get it home in the NE sector. Or all most a runner. Towing or flat bedding is pretty spendy. 1955 General Motors GM Coach PD-4501 Scenicruiser RV Conversion | ClassicBusDepot.com http://s971.photobucket.com/user/pd4501771/library/Scenicruiser%20PD4501-227%20For%20Sale?sort=6&page=1 |
Still looking.
|
I'm still waiting for a call back from the owner of the one next to my Sister's place.
I will let you know if it turns out to be available. It would most likely require hauling on a trailer to move it any distance. Cheers Richard |
OK
Thanx I guess I will find out when you find out..LOL I am interested. |
This one was sitting out on Rt 50 in Ocean City Maryland for the longest time. Its converted to a motor home. Not sure if its still there. I would have snatched it up if I had the room for it.

Nice !
Thats the one ! Or what it should look like. I have come across quite a few way to hacked and modified to bring back. Perhaps i should cruise over there and look around..... |
I saw this one at the AHRMA historic MC races at Willow Springs this past April. It was beautiful. Even had a tin roof inside.

Pretty sure that Fixable belongs to Bernard Juchli. Jay Leno's chief mechanic.
It's a beautiful modernized conversion. He was probably there racing in a sidecar rig, was national champ last year when I met him at Laguna Seca. He and his wife did the high quality work on the coach in their back yard. Cheers Richard They did a very nice interior. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1475462247.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1475462362.jpg |
I used to think i had ideas.

Hope we stay on thread here
I am still looking for PD 4501 ( Scenicruiser, most any condition ) Thanx |
Been meaning to touch back in with you Afterburner.
Since I have not heard back from the owner here in all this time. I think we are safe in concluding that he is not interested in selling his bus. Good luck in finding the one you are looking for. Cheers Richard |
Thanx for trying !
|
Thanx
Nope, sold a year ago. |
|
WOW! If that's as discribed, it may be to one you have been waiting for Afterburn!
Nice find Mark. I wouldn't wait to check it out. The stainless siding looks nice, would probably clean up beautifully. On the Fixable we looked at earlier, Bernard was able to find nos siding for his rig. There is an active group of Fixable owners. Could paint a greyhound on the section between the Windows after you get rid of that silly trim piece. Shoot, the new tires are worth almost the asking price. I know it's not the exact model you are looking for. May be worth adjusting your sights for. Looking forward to any follow up. Cheers Richard |
Crap!
Just got in- post was deleted . Dang! |
|
Thanx for trying folks .
Yes the flxible is not the PD 4501 . Looks sort of the same . I think the big giveaway is the no tag axle . AFAIK all Scenicruisers had one . |
Good to know !
Thanx ! |
For the 4501 experts -I have been studying !
And the good news is- I have a line on a couple units for sale , finally ! In the process here, I have learned they all crack . Albeit I can not seem to get the information where this crack is, except by some windows. This does not scare me as i have as I have the means to cure it, i just do not know where to look. |
|
Not sure what that is , I have seen them B4 .
Silversides? Definitely, not a 4501 Not interested but thanx. My Scenicruiser has not risen from the ashes. Still looking . |
Spotted this at a rest area in Kentucky ....
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477858287.jpg |
Not sure what that was originally .
It is kind a hard to look at now. |
I talked to the owner briefly and it is a couple of 50s buses grafted together. Would have like to seen the interior, maybe it makes up for the ungainly exterior.
|
All maybe true
But the scenic cruiser is the 911 of busses . It just looks right. |
No doubt about that.
|
Still looking .....................
|
|
Kinda hoping for the scenicruiser.
|
|
Looking forward to it. Was that bus on BaT some sort of semiscenicruiser?
|
Saw this and was reminded of this thread: is this one? And are you still looking?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507754714.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507754735.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507754766.jpg |
That is one...
Wonder if he's still looking? |
What is the advantage of converting an old chassis like that to an RV? We’re the older styles more comfortable or do you upgrade the suspension and all the components to modern spec? If you convert everything to modern spec, would it be easier to just start with a recently retired bus? Or is this an adventure in making a vintage cruiser that is also modern?
|
A golf buddy said years ago; I could stay in a 5 star hotel each night I travel for the "cost"of a RV. As I get older, he's right.

Yer gonna want to buy this and modify it for decades and then eventually jump off a cliff when the taxman squad comes a knockin' my friend:
Vintage 1946 Flxible Bus Conversion 8777 - Antique Buses, Motorcoach Conversions - Buses for Sale http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507774966.jpg Needs another axle and severe driveline modification. Four tires? Pshsssss. You need 10. That's gonna cost the interior some space and everything's gotta be readjusted. Needs a newer bigger power plant than whatever that thing is. Geesh. Aw heck add battery racks roof panels and go all muthuf'in regenerative wheel hub hybrid and add the 110v redbeard system fo all da pimps rides. Driveline, heat/cooling, wallplugs, everything redundant, run off pure solar or auto switch to engine, whatever is better. Interior is 'sufficient' but unless you like 40 year old foam it needs an IKEA overhaul Small space - IKEA There is a lot of extra clothing storage space available with a little reorganizing and you understand that concept. You want a covered rack to store a couple road-legal 125s for going into town or down that trail over there I assume. An integrated flush pull-out canopy for grillin' and chillin' in the rain. A door-open storage area for all yer tools and jacks and lights and air. |
