New toy in the house - laser

I've been looking at laser cutter lately. The US-made Epilog and Universals are hideously expensive, so I started considering a Chinese laser.

I picked this up from a local friend of mine in the same business. This is the cheapest POS Chinese laser you can get. They run about $300-350 on Ebay.
Got this for $150, since he just upgraded to a larger laser. I'll toy with this for a while before I move up to something larger and more powerful.

So far, I'm happy with it.

Back in the late 1990s one of our client friends got into the side business of changing headstones. Many of them had been sold with the date of death and the 19 already engraved. He would photograph the old headstone and we made him a full size print on a cheap velum type paper. He then ground down and polished the granite, and used his laser to re-etch the image. It was so powerful of a laser he had to have a federal permit to own it.

Some of his customers just wanted him to grind down the 19 and re-etch the date the person died. It did not look as good but the family did not want to spend a lot of money on a headstone.

It's a guitar pickup bobbin for a telecaster. The material in a .090 vulcanized fibreboard called Forbon. Also known as "fishpaper"

Yep, I'm aware of the issues it has. Mine's grounded to the large main drain pipe of our house. Should be good enough, I would hope....
