Note 7 Users: Where to?

Just curious what you are looking to change to with the demise of your new phone?

It's funny, after the announcement of the replacement battery fix, I started thinking about getting a refurbished Note 7, since it seemed like there would be a lot of them around. The dimensions are really not that far from the Galaxy S7 and almost identical to the S7 Edge.

So, I guess I'll hold out to next spring and upgrade to the S8. Or maybe the Pixel...

I just got an S7, still getting use to it. My S5 was giving me issues and Sprint replaced it with a New S7, NO CHARGE

Not that I'm an Android user, but if I were, I would not consider getting anything other than Nexus or Pixel. Something sold directly by Google and receiving security updates directly from Google.

Or with what is needed to build your own from source. Of course, we'll never see a total Free Software phone system - the hardware manufacturers prevent it, in the mostly wrong belief that documenting how to interact with the hardware would expose how the hardware is made/designed internally. So, binary blobs. And if those blobs or the modules that use them aren't kept up to date with the Linux kernels intentional unstable internal API then you can't go Free and do your own updates (or have a 3rd party do them for you).

Personally I'm still searching for a replacement for my iPhone 4 (not even 4s). Held back by form factor from apple although the SE looks interesting, held back by lack of true Freedom for something that started as Free with Android. Maybe I'll go retro cool and build a bag w/ battery, raspberry pi, some dongles, and an old wall handset ....

My wife is going thru this right now. Basically, there is no direct comparison to the Note 7. She loves the stylus feature and while you can add a stylus to any phone, the Note 7 had some native software that enabled some really slick integration. Plus the onboard storage of the pen itself was nice.

I have a Nexus and will never not own a Google device but she is not willing to drop $800 up front on a Pixel XL.

My guess is she will end up w/ an S7 edge.

I'm considering the Huawei P9.

There have been some negative comments about how this phone has been marketed.

Make sure you put that S7 Edge in a case; both front and back are made of glass!!!!
3 days new and I dropped mine, not pretty and $250 for a replacement front screen.

I'm thinking about the S7 Edge as well. I really hate to give up my Note 7.

I've had the S7 Edge for about 5 months now. I really like the operation, water resistance, and sleek feel of the phone. You couldn't pay me to go back to an iPhone.

I have a very thin urethane pop-on cover for mine. I drop it all the time with no cracks or issues. I even completely submerged it when I fell off while streaming Pandora on a paddleboard workout. It never stopped playing music and hasn't missed a beat since.

After RMAing three Nexus phones I would be highly hesitant to go with a Pixel.
