Apple Watch 2

Totally killer. I don't know why everyone doesn't have one! I love this thing. Send texts and emails without touching anything? Oh hell yeah. Turn by turn directions, too. Can't wait to try it out in a new foreign city somewhere.

My wife just got her first Apple Watch, it's a 2, and she loves it. The new Watch OS is great too!

Even the first generation I wear is awesome, if for nothing else, like you said the way it taps my wrist when my exit is coming up is priceless.

I have the Watch1 with new wOS. Love it. Stopped wearing anything else.

What I use it for the most
- Silent alert then quick glance at texts, reply with voice dictation
- Silent alert for calendar items and alerts
- Silent alert for phone calls, answer from wrist if needed
- Timers for parking meters, cooking, anything
- Timing events
- Heart rate
- Turn by turn navigation
- Weather alerts
- Time, of course

Just picked one up today.

So tell me... what should I be using it for? I like being able to see alerts without pulling out my phone all the time, but that's pretty basic...

Mostly - for me - because of its size and rather ugly rectangular shape... and the phone does most of that already... Waiting on Samsung Gear S3 to see, looks prettier, despite not being apple...

It depends on what you want to do with it. Samsung is not replacing the Gear S2 (Round Screen) with the Gear S3, except for the "classic Gear S2". The Gear S2 is smaller, so they are keeping it in the line. The specs are the same, except for slightly larger screen on the G3 and the G3 has GPS built in. And all models have the speaker. On the Gear S22, only the SIM enabled variant has a speaker.

My Galaxy Gear S recently had some issues after 2 years. I "think" I can fix it again, but it will probably not last. The sim card door let some water in. So I'm buying a refurbished Gear S2 for $109! The metal link replacement band is $25. So I have basically a Gear S2 Classic with 3G and phone for $134.

Can the Apple Watch 2 let you answer calls and act as a speaker phone?

Yes. Seems to work well. No SIM card though, so it does this while paired with your phone.

I have enough digital stuff in my life. I prefer some things analog.

50ish years old and still keeps relatively good time :-)

I do wish Apple would open up the watch faces - the squarish Apple Watch just begs for a Heuer Monaco face.

For me the killer app is Two factor Authentication texts, I login to a lot of things online and it's nice to get the TFA on your wrist.

Apparently the Apple Watch is the most accurate of the wrist HR sensors. Apple Watch is most precise wrist-worn heart rate tracker at 90% accuracy, study says

When the subject is exercising, Apple Watch is 90% accurate, other wrist sensors like Fitbit are closer to 80%, and a chest strap is 99%.

So 170 bpm could be 168-172 with chest strap, 153-187 with Apple Watch, and 136-204 with other wrist sensors . . .

For serious exercise use, seems like there's no substitute for a chest strap.

I would say absolutely. The issue is cost. To the get highest level will require the strap PLUS another device which interfaces with it, typically a Garmin unit.

Will the Apple Watch connect to a heart rate strap?
