How about jewelry... when it's pronounced JEW-LUH-REE?

Or realtor... pronounced REAL-UH-TER?

irregardless - Annoys me. Borderline word. Most dictionaries list it as nonstandard or incorrect usage, and recommend that "regardless" should be used instead.

Garage
And then there's incorrect word usage that got used so much it's become part of the language. The most annoying to me is the past tense of "to dive", which is dived not dove. As in "she dived into the pool".
A dove is a bird....

This is really interesting...2003 Harvard University dialect study. At about 2:20 in they survey root vs. route:

There was a famous column by Dave Barry about this.

Ever notice on here how many people type "defiantly" instead of "definitely?"

This one has defiantly become a pet peeve of mine over the last few years. I don't think people intentionally type the word "defiantly". Rather, their effort at spelling "definitely" is woeful enough that the spell checker changes it "defiantly" and they simply don't recognize the difference.

Dove has been common usage in parts of the US and Canada for about two centuries. I don't really recall ever hearing anyone say dived.

Yes, I'm aware both are accepted as correct. I think this is a case of people using the incorrect version so much it becomes accepted.

I think pronouncing route as root fits this category.
