Lost my wedding ring

I had a local Japanese craftsmen melt down some old gold single earrings, broken gold chains, etc. and cast me the ring 34 years ago for my wedding ring, different than Donna's. It was a nice looking not small, and not large ring.

We did that route because it was cheap back then (just getting married) , I had the old gold and he cast it for like $100. I've been sick and lost a few pounds, including a slight bit of weight loss on my fingers. It just disappeared, as in slipped off my finger a few days ago, no idea where. I was working in the yard, and remember having it on, I've looked in the pool, the spa, all the trash in case it came off during hand cleaning, inside the engine compartment of the 911, garbage disposal, etc. its just gone. Thinking of getting him to cast me a new one of the exact same ring, he's still in business. Maybe $750-$1,000 in 14K gold. I could buy something else for 1/2 the price, but I don't care.

i feel your pain. my ring cost more than my wife's, and my best guess is that it is buried under 1000 tons of Asphalt paving. the money doesnt bum me out, but just losing it did.

One never knows what might turn up, Hugh. My grandparents lived in same house from about 1925 until the late sixties. My grandad, an avid gardener, lost his wedding ring while tending his fruit trees during WWII.

A few months after my grandad passed in `72 there came a knock on my grandmother's door. Having met him only once, she didn't recognize the man who had purchased their long-time home, but she never again forgot him, as he brought with him a gold ring he he'd unearthed while working in his garden.

Bummer Hugh, we do get attached to these momentos of our lives.

I'm now married to a favorite surf spot in Tahiti, where mine got blasted off my hand.

The new one just wasn't the same.

Maybe get ahold of a metal detector and go over the yard with it.

Sorry Hugh......losing stuff sucks in general but that ring with it's sentimental value...ugh! Yes - get another one made and in time maybe the original will turn up.

I don't wear any jewelry at all - not even a watch. Doesn't hurt that I'm single of course...

Time to buy a metal detector and have some fun in the yard. When you've found it, go to the beach and see what you can find.

Quick Story. My neighbor at Lake Berryessa had some friends up. When teaching his friend to ski, his friend decided not risk it with his wedding ring on. So he took it off while still in the water. Instead of handing it to his wife in the boat, he tossed it to her. Well it bounced right off her hand and into the lake. Now this was in the cove below our homes. So my buddy sort of took his bearings on the shore straight ahead and to his left where the cover came around and noted the landmarks. This was 10+ years ago. Well the drought has hit the lake pretty hard the last few years and the water is WAY down. So last year I see my neighbor down on the "beach" (old lakebed) with a metal detector. When he comes back up the hill I ask him if he found anything. He holds up a gold wedding band and begins to tell this story.

I lost my wedding ring in Maui on my honeymoon. My wife noticed my ring was gone and things went a little south. I went back out where I had been snorkeling and looked around having very low hopes of ever seeing it again. Finding nothing, I headed back to beach where my wife was still lounging and while wading in through the waves something glimmered on the beach right at the edge of the water line. Yup, it was my ring. If the tide had been coming in it would have been gone.

Keep looking, don't give up. Check you pants and coat pockets.

I'd never heard of Lake Berryessa until a few weeks ago and was actually there. Two weeks ago. Might look into a metal detector.

Working as a machinist when I first got married, never bothered with a ring since it'd be foolish to wear it at work.
Ten years pass, change jobs, wife finally says it's time for me to have one. Buy it, but it needs sizing. That afternoon I'm washing the car, before going over to the in-law's, on our front lawn. Notice my ring has slipped off my finger. Stop washing the car and start looking for it in the grass (this was before the drought). Postman walks up and starts chatting, asking what I'm looking for. Tell him my ring fell off. He looks down and picks up something and asks "Is this it?" I couldn't thank him enough.

Yeh, told her, and I didn't like doing it. She took it in stride. I upgraded her mediocre wedding band ($100) from when we first got married 35 y/o to something more substantial years ago. A Pelican in CA just made me an incredible offer of a piece of gold if I decide to have it re-cast. Way too kind, its not the money or the price of the Gold. But the sentiment and the offer from a fellow Pelican to cast it into my future ring is way beyond generous. IF I take him up on it, I see a nice steak in his future, with all the trimmings.

I was just a kid at the car wash with my dad when he went to shake his hand to get some soap off it, we heard the "tingggg" of his ring fly off and looked everywhere for it to no avail.

About 10 years later my mom looked down and her ring was on but no diamond. We build a screen system to sift through dirt etc from the garden where she thought she lost it, but never found it.

Bummer you lost it Hugh, but it does happen. Fortunately for me my left hand got smacked in a hockey game and broke my ring finger knuckle. I healed, but no way that ring was coming off....

Until I got divorced, then soap, cold water and lots of pulling and cussing got it off.

Well at least you can claim credit for losing weight so the ring was sliding off I have been married for 24 years now and her ring has not been taken off my finger. Very simple white/yellow gold band. Nothing special, maybe worth $300 total in currency. Far more, as with Hugh, in memories and legacy.

Agree with Rick L and invest in a metal detector. If it is on your property you will find it. If not, make a special trip and get another. That is what I would do. Bottom line - your bride is still by your side and you are thankful for that. A first world problem for sure. Good luck!

I posted here 12 years ago that Donna had to have a right mastectomy (full reconstruction now a days is amazing, especially if you have UCLA Health), it doesn't matter to me in the least. I married the girl, not the boob.

I am with you Hugh on that. My wife and I don't wear wedding rings. Lost them years ago. Neither of us is into jewelry. No chance of destroying our fingers while wrenching, gardening etc.
