You know you're old when you're longing for the good old days, specifically, when people used to screw toilet seats to random fence posts. You do realize that people back then were complaining about the toilet seat, right? And all the useless garage hung onto the post, for that matter.

Just ran across this story and thought of this thread....what kind of low life would do something like this?

Baby python found with mouth sewn shut outside Miami home

MIAMI (AP) - A baby ball python is recovering after being found with its mouth sewn shut outside a South Florida home.

Lt. Scott Mullin of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Venom Unit posted pictures of the tiny snake on social media. The photos show what appears to be brown strings hanging from the snake's mouth. Mullin said he took the snake to a friend who is also a snake breeder and together they removed the stiches.

He wrote the snakes are very docile by nature and make great pets. Florida wildlife officials say the snakes rarely grow to be more than four feet long.

NBC 6 (Snake Found With Mouth Sewn Shut Outside SW Miami Home | NBC 6 South Florida ) reported Wednesday Mullin got a call about the snake from a family who found it outside their home.

My father, born 1903, assured me, "Anyone who talks about the good old days, wasn't there".
In the 60's there were hellions in my small community who should have got punishment but escaped. Incidentally, two of us had mothers who worked. we weren't the trouble makers.
There have always been those who destroy others property because they can. That sort of behaviour is not new.

When I was a pup - in the mid 50's - there were indian rock paintings across the river from my grandparent's ranch. The park service finally had to put up wire fencing because of so many people defacing them. Nothing new.

But coarsening of culture? We have a swearing, fraud-committing, adulterous reality TV host as president elect. If that ain't coarsening, I don't know what is.

With all due respect...he's raised some really great kids.....which I think constitutes much of the thread discussion.

But that's none of my business.....

I wonder if you overlay those graphs onto the median age, or number of males between the age of say 10 and 20 yrs, if there will be a correlation. Those trends may be simply due to the number of perps, and not so much society's tendency to break laws.

Or, perhaps it is an increase in security technology targeted at those crimes.

Has the population of that demographic decreased since 1980s?

I recall in the book freakonmics, the attributed the reduction in crime to row v wade and a smaller number of children raised in less than optimum conditions. Im not sure of thier methods, but they are definitely into data over emotion.

I grew up in the 80's and 90's and I was definitely more afraid of somebody breaking into my car in those times than today.

I would say so. You have fewer crimes when you have fewer perps.
