914 Part Out?

I'm looking at parting out a rusty 914 1.7.

Car is cheap, good tranny, interior is all there, engine spins freely, I suspect I can get it running.

Is it worth my time to part it out? The car is roughly $1,000.

I could use some pocket money.

"North of me" for your location - how far north of Florida? I have a friend who has been considering a 914 for a long-term project.... send me a PM if you want to sell it

How bad is the rust? Have you priced 914's lately - that might be a $4k car - seriously!

It's bad. I'm going to see it, but they are always worse than the pictures.

Canada bring in import issues, etc. and probably would make it not worth it for him...

The tranny is worth about $150 if it is a late one. Early one= paper weight.

You'll only way to make money on parting one out is to get it free. I've done it several times.

Not a lot of parts money in that particular car.

The most valuable thing probably would be if it had perfect chrome bumpers and rubber bumper tops (highly unlikely).

And even with that, it's iffy. Without it, no way.

PM sent! Is it a 2.0 car? Or, a candy color e.g Orange, Red, Yellow, non-metallic Green?

C4S is in Canada right? 914's are worth more here and the value is going up, but a rusty 1.7 for $1k...I'd pass.
If it was a 2.0 with fuchs OK maybe...

My 15yr/old was just given a restorable 1,7 by a world member

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

If it has rust in the suspension under the battery tray, under the rockers near the jack post, run away.

That's where most of the 914s were sold.

Sounds like I need a different project. Thanks for the input.

I will go see it, but I think I'm out.
