wierd smell from my truck.

2006 Toyota Tacoma..140,000+ miles.

the smell is mostly outside. it wafts in when i stop after a long hot drive; after i park and open my doors. the smell is almost organic..like i am burning some weed, but not quite. i crawled under, and all was clean and i have not gone offroad anytime recent. it isnt some branch caught up under there.

could it be my catalytic converter? if so,, that cant be good.

no loss of power and my mpg is still up to par.

The truck is just fighting back in retaliation for all of your gaseous emissions coming from the driver directly into the seat!

Dutch oven!

Had exactly that in my Saturn just a week ago. Same sort of thing. Right front wheel was hot enough to burn skin when touched. Almost meted the wheel cover.

I'd follow the smell and find something hot.

My truck developed a weird smell. 1995 Sierra K1500. One day I opened the hood and something was moving underneath the hood liner. So I stood back and sprayed with a hose and a squirrel came flying out. Thought it was gone, but once they urinate they own you... They can hide all kinds of crap everywhere in the body panels and all over. I finally got rid of that one squirrel... No squirrels for two years. And then a new one moved in, and it started all over. And no matter what, I couldn't get rid of the smell. Power washing, nothing...

I wondered how many trips I took with it and my squirrel to the big city.

In the end I sold the truck, after 20 years, and way too cheap as it's a minor collectible now...

When my SC had an intermittent sticking caliper (LF) - it smelled like overheated electrical wiring. It was rather a concern, as the smell was right in the area of the fuse panel. Took me a while to realize it was stronger within the wheel well.

Is that the same era as the Subaru's with the soy based wiring? If so, maybe a hot wire somewhere? Those wires stink when they get hot (and attract tree rats and mice when not used). But not sure if they had that that long ago??
