i need a child..no two kids.

just did taxes....ouch.

i'm rallying for next year..turned 50, so doing that catch up thing on my 401k and paying extra monthly..my paycheck is gonna be dinky.

i'm joking about the kids..they eat way more than what my taxes are..

Million-dollar babies: The cost of raising a child - Today's Parent
.
"Ward pegs the all-in cost of raising a child to 18 in the U.S. at around $700,000, or closer to $900,000 to age 22, which is a more realistic picture for today’s families."

Don't me me started on the tax deductions. We have none, nada, zip, zero. No mortgage and no dependents and we are married so we get the higher rate. For the taxes we even have to supply the IRS with our own KY lube and even that is not deductible!

There is a definate sacrifice with having kids, but my 23 year old daughter finally has a really good job, and will graduate with a CAD degree later this year. My 18 year old son will be into diesel tech in the fall, and hopefully finding a high paying job he enjoys.

We have driven 10-15 year old cars, for years, but I have been dumping 20% into the 401K for the last 4-5 years, so it has grown substantially. We aren't going to just scrape by in retirement !

My taxes (living in a rural setting in a flyover state) are pretty low compared to you Kaliforia boys. With FICA, state, local, and school district, not to mention, sales tax, and fuel tax, there isn't much left.

New a person that bought a new house they couldn't afford to pay less taxes they had already spent. I think they were taking notes from our government debt.

Don't forget that as an end-user of any product, you paid the employer's side of SS and other taxes for every single item you bought and everything from beginning to end. Take a loaf of bread, you paid for the grower of the wheat, his laborers, the amortization of the employees who built the tractors, the water purveyor, the baker, the truck driver, the shelf stockers and cashiers at the supermarket, etc.

I remember reading about this just out of high school...back in '63.
Back then it was $250,000.

I have two in college and one more joining them next year. Financially, you're better off with none! But the rest?...my favorite people in the world, so, happy to write the checks.

People used to say to me,
"Buck, you are one lucky son of a *****.
You got it made, Buck."
And I did.
They'd say, "Man, look at you.
You don't have any kids,
any wife.
You don't have a desk,
an office.
You don't have a boss
to worry about."
They were right.
I had it made.
Only thing now is, Perce...
nobody says that anymore.
Oh, boy.
But...
it'll all be better tomorrow.
It always is.

Wow, I sure got a lot for a dollar. Do you think he'd let me drive the tractor ?
