Looks like you can buy it if you want it. Price is still a bit high, $38 for 500. But you can definitely buy it if you want it.

Supply and demand. I bet as the demand normalizes so will the pricing, because supply is probably high. But like most things related to guns, I doubt it ever gets as cheap as it once was.

Fortunately, I didn't have to buy during the crazy time. If it goes below $25 for 500, I will consider another purchase. I think my last one was around $17 for 550. Really don't NEED any, but....

What is funny is that when people were paying 75/brick for cheap bulk stuff (that should be $25/brick) I was paying 75/brick delivered for my match ammo. Which was 65/brick delivered 6 years ago, adn is 70ish per brick delivered now when I catch a sale.

I pretty much stopped shooting my Ruger Mark II over the past few years. After I shot through a brick of 550 (that I paid $8 for sometime prior to the shortage), I just didn't buy it much. That means I paid less than 1.5¢ per round something like 6 years ago. I think it's more like 9¢ per round right now. That means that 22LR has gone up in price 600%. .223 has gone up more like 50% during the same period.

I've been buying ammo over the years via 'dollar cost averaging.'
Like, when I saw some on sale, I'd buy...even during the shortage...whether I was going to shoot or not. I must have 10,000 + rounds of .22 and the same of 7.62x39...at least 5,000 rounds of .45....same with 9mm & .38 Special, etc. Big 5 would have 30 - 30 "Accelerator" on sale frequently...I'd buy. . I have an old box of .22 HP (50) with a Big 5 price tag of $.89...that's going back a decade or so...or more. . I'm getting into .22 mag now, so I'm looking at that. . Two years ago I answered a local ad for .45 ammo. A fellow had only a few months to live...bought his last 20 boxes for pennies. He was selling everything he owned.

It's actually a bit more accurate than the S&W.  My most accurate .22 is my old High Standard Sport King. I bought it back when nobody was even giving these things a second look. Everyone wanted the Ruger. This one is kind of big and heavy as a holster .22, but it's all but "match accurate". Sure am glad I'm able to shoot these as much as I want again.

Sounds about right. That's all of a $1500-$2000 .22 these days. Insane...
Of course if I had bought it, I would have tens of thousands of rounds through it by now, my kids would have shot it while they were learning, and it would have been passed around at the range like Martha Stewart in San Quentin. And it would still be a $1000-$1200 .22. With memories like that, however, it would never be for sale, so its monetary value would be insignificant. One does not build that kind of value in a firearm by sitting around the living room admiring it, afraid to turn its cylinder.
