And there you have it. Someday he's probably going to breed. Hell, he probably did/tried while he was at your place.

My wife dumped me for an old boyfriend she had 31 years ago. Left me with 2 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat, & 1 horse to take care of. Between her moving, lawyers & money she took, I down 36k already. Haven't even gotten to the good lawyer stuff yet.

I'm sorry what was wrong with your TV again?

How about you run out a set of cables for the xbox with instructions for connection and where to find it on your home theater controller?
Sorry to hear of your wife's sudden exit, Grog.

TV has gotten way too complicated, and the content A few months ago I was called on to get my elderly parent's system working again after the cat had gotten into the wiring area and pulled something loose. Quite the panic set in as I peered at the mass of tangled wiring trying to determine the routing amidst all the inputs and outputs and old abandoned connections dangling there. I got lucky and found a power cord pulled loose that was the problem.

I regularly go to restaurants where there's a screen size mismatch and you can't read all the titling. I guess no one is smart enough to make it work

She did ask if it was OK for her boyfriend to visit. She did not ask if it was OK for him to rearrange my AV system to suit himself.

So that explains why the cables were plugged in wrong and the settings were all screwed up. It didn't occur to me that anyone would be so rude (maybe irresponsible or selfish are better words) as to go mucking around the cabling of someone else's AV system. As far as I'm concerned it's the same as coming into someone else's house and rearranging their furniture. So now I'm going to add, "Don't TOUCH any of the cables, don't TOUCH the TV, don't TOUCH the AV box" to the video, and maybe a warning that if they screw up the system they aren't going to get paid.
How about deactivate the entire AV system while you are gone?

I'm the designated AV expert in the house. This is just with the wife and MIL and me. You'd be amazed at how messed up things can appear to be with the MIL's TV - and she only has 1 remote she touches.

I assume you have a dedicated circuit going to your A/V system. Turn the power off at the fuse box. Put a big sheet over the equipment and hide the remotes, maybe in a lock box hidden away. NOT WORKING - DO NOT TOUCH sign can be taped somewhere if they remove the cover sheet.

Then buy a cheap $150 TV for the kitchen where guests and watch TV, and you can get future use out of it too.

I assume you have a TV in the bedroom already, so there are alternatives for the guests.

If the guest is hard up for TV they can watch it on their phone or pad, it's their business, they can watch TV on the toilet for all you care, right?

Yep, and the old adage out of sight, out of mind reigns true.

Otherwise you might have someone trying to do you a favor and really fix your problem for you. No system, no problem.
