Gammo is cheap Spanish junk. Their velocity claims are made with their super light for caliber composite pellets. Their velocities lag terribly with lead pellets of standard weight for the caliber in question. That, and their build quality is far, far below that of a quality German or English made example. Serious airgunners readily acknowledge that Gammos have a finite lifespan of a few thousand rounds at most, before something breaks. They are probably one of the better lower to mid range brands, and just fine for a casual shooter who is not going to shoot it much, but they just will not hold up like the higher quality German or English guns. There is no magic in air guns - you very much get what you pay for, as in many things in our lives.

So I aimed a bit higher....consistent 2' drop at 100 yds, and the two shots were an inch apart...couldn't believe an air rifle could do this!
Now I'm on the hunt for a 52 (seem to be discontinued) or a 48, with the T06 trigger, in .177 with a scope for my uncle....he says "dang you" too . BTW...my uncle is simply drooling over the T06 trigger....and he has a trigger costing several hundred on his custom made hunting rifle that is less than 1lb...if you haven't squeezed one yet,you should! As far as scopes....he will shoot a fraction of what you do....don't know which brand comes with a 48, as most sites say it isn't the Leapers shown in the pics. The search is on....

Damm dude, I am just going from what I learned bass pro shops, besides, I use the grown up fire arms for plinking, opinion noted.....

I would suggest getting the side-cocker, either 48 or 52, in .22 caliber. These things have a lot more power than the 34. The power-plant is noticeably larger and takes a good deal more effort to cock. My 48 shoots the H&N 14.6 grain pellet at over 840 fps, where my 34 only musters about 670 with it.

There is always chatter in airgun circles about how these super powerful springers can damage themselves when shooting too light of a pellet, and the wisdom says all .177's are too light for these. They need more resistance to the piston slamming to its stop, which is provided by the resting inertia of the heavier pellets building more air pressure behind them.

.22's are better at long range and in the wind anyway. That's where my 48 really shines above my 34. My 34 is my "basement gun" or off the deck to the back fence gun. My 48 is my across the whole yard, and even the neighbor's yard gun.

Hey Jeff, which Weaver are you using and how long has it held up? And which Williams peep sights do you prefer? I think he'll end up getting a 52 in .22 w/o a scope...he might throw a shotgun scope on he has laying around for now, but he did bring up adding a peep sight on his own. Thanks!

Weaver warranties their rimfire scopes for magnum springer use. I've used their 2x-7x, which has held up on my 48 for about three years and over 5,000 rounds. They have a number of different rimfire scopes. Mine is the one on the left:

For peep sights, I really like this Williams:

Williams FP-GR-TK Aperture Sight

They have several versions of this same basic sight. A tall one, a low one, with or without the target knobs, and aperture or open. These just clamp to the dovetail base on top of the receiver. I use the low line of sight, aperture, target knob version on both my 34 and a Weihrauch HW80. I've shot my 48 with one as well, and it works great there, too.
